Thinking of Woody today on the 15 Anniversary of his passing. Had some ABB and Mule on this afternoon.
R.I.P WOODY.

I have yet to throw myself into that three-show box from the first Mule tour. Tonight could be the night.

RIP Capt'n Al - he could make your breastbone vibrate - with the thunder from his bass & the smile on his face!

One of the greatest to ever pick up the instrument. Love all his work. Can't believe it's been 15 years.

RIP

I love Woody's bass playing- he left us way too soon! I was looking around for some Woody-era Mule on youtube, when I came across this unbelievable tune called "Woody's Jam", which was recorded for the Hot Licks guitar instruction tapes back in the day:

This reminds me of vintage Cream, it's that good!

I first saw Woody play with the Brothers in 1990. Saw him another 5 times with the Brothers and multiple times in Atlanta/Athens with Govt Mule including their second show ever and also at Music Midtown. I met him briefly in Spring 1997 at Music Midtown. We were both walking toward the stage where Warren was playing an acoustic set with Edwin McCain & Kevn Kinney. I got to tell him how much he meant to the ABB (right after the announcement they had left the group). His bass playing and tone was really one of the things that gave the ABB a credible old school sound when they reunited in 1989 and recorded the next year. He was different than anyone before, but he was authentically Allman Brothers sounding. His playing during their acoustic sets was just off the charts good and is some of my favorite Allman Brothers music they ever recorded (Exhibit A, B, C: the IRSA 1992 and MTV Unplugged 1990 sets and that 1991 Great Woods DVD).

I was on the ABB & eMule listservs the day of this death and the word started to travel that he passed in his hotel. It was surreal to read every post that popped up and to see it confirmed.

I was pleased that he had gotten back up on stage with the ABB that summer 2000 a couple of times (along with Warren, Johnny Neel).

Those who knew him said he was one of the funniest humans they ever met. RIP Allen Woody.
