If you have a show that is TAO please put that somewhere in your list....If you are burning shows for me or I think about 100 percent of everyone else here, please burn them DAO....If you are wondering what I am talking about becasue you don't know what TAO or DAO means, stop burning any shows until you find out....I just received several shows all TAO, and It would have been nice to know that info a head of time....Maybe they arent TAO but were burned that way..Anyway....Just a suggestion.....

...might also be nice to expand that out to mention if you have a show that use to be TAO that had the gaps removed...not trying to be an A.R.N. here, but removing those gaps with EAC leaves a click/tic between tracks that I could do without.
Of course, that's much, much better than having to hear the original gaps....

Not the end of the world or anything...just would be a nice heads-up....

Agree with both.... and to further agree with Benjanin's point, the only way I've found to get the gaps out (without leaving a click/pop or short-gap) is to open the file in a WAV editor, zoom in real close on the gap, select the segment to be deleted, deleted it, check it, and repeat 'til you've got them all. Then you have to re-track the entire disc. It's a very time consuming process and only recommended for the excessively anal (like me).

The best process it to not create the TAO shows in the first place!

For those that trade with me, if you click on the notes for a show on my list I put TAO, fixed TAO or any other warts that a show has.

That is if I remember them by the time I get to Etree to enter it

There is only one solution. Public floggings.

Or perhaps a week in the stocks. I think the Puritans were onto something with that. An opportunity to throw rotten fruit and vegetables at those who befuddle my hobby could prove to be immensely satisfying for me.

Unless the dopes were willing to resend the trade without gaps. It's not rocket science. Really. It's not. I swear. Look, if it was none of us could figure it out. Well, not me at least. I failed pretty miserably at chaos math. I have no idea what that has to do with anything, but it seemed to bear mentioning here.

Get with the program folks. I've mistakenly sent out TAO shows, but when informed I ALWAYS offer to resend. And it's a genuine offer, I don't extend it in hopes that it won't be accepted... Unless the person is a total squib, but I've yet encountered that here.

Friends don't let friends trade TAO!!!

That's interesting because when I remove gaps I get the click on my walkman but I don't get it on the car or home stereo.

Question: Sometimes EAC finds little .01 second gaps (the click). Is that a sign that it was TAO and gaps were removed? What happens if you remove those little babies?

When I receive a TAO disc, I throw it away. Destroy it, so it doesn't breed another TAO disc.

Heyb Bill...I was thinking about this after posting....probably the best thing to do with a TAO disc is to throw it away and get a DAO replacement, assuming a DAO source is available.
If not though, next best thing is to have those gaps removed.....

Yeah, I agree Jim. But instances like that are few and far between. If I receive 4, 6, or 8 discs from somebody, a variety of different shows, and all are TAO, I'm either going to throw them away or send them back. I don't want them, and surely wouldn't put them on my list. Sending them back usually doesn't work, because the person will just resend more TAO discs.

I did have an experience recently on another forum where I agreed to a 6 disc trade. The person sent me 6 TAO discs. I emailed him back, that I appreciated his effort but I would have to put the discs where they belong, in the trash can. He seemed shocked and didn't understand what I meant by TAO & DAO. I spent a few hours explaining things to him. He stayed in contact with me for almost a month, and finally came through with 6 discs that were burned correctly. Turned out to be a great guy, just new to trading. Anyway I told him to pick a show off my list and I sent him a freebie.

It would be nice if I had more happy ending stories like that to share, but usually I hear something like, "I don't understand what you are complaining about, it shouldn't be a big deal because only GD or Phish shows, where all the songs are transitional, should the gaps be an inconvenience. The gaps shouldn't matter on ABB or Dickey Betts shows because they play mostly songs". Believe it or not, I've heard that recently, here. Oh man, now that pissed me off, being as his discs probably sounded ok, and he just didn't care about what he sent me. If he is unable to trade discs that are burned correctly like the ones he received, then he shouldn't be luring someone in to a trade. That's what B&p's are for and we are very generous with those offers here.
Sorry for the long post, back to smiley mode.

I agree, The only way that you are gonna get the show reburned correctly is if it's a newbie that doesn't know better but wants to know.
Too often you get the attitude that if the gaps don't bother me it shouldn't bother you.
Fortunately around here that's hasn't been a problem
