Apparently he died either this morning or last night.

I knew it had to be bad when he missed the last Stones dates.

Another huge loss for a generation of "classic rock". Bobby Keys transcended the role of sideman. He was a legend in his own right. Born on the same day - only hours apart from his "brother from another mother" Keith Richards. Heaven will be rowdy tonight!

Wow! What a bummer! Great player that really, really played with the greats.

He seemed like he lived a hard life that finally caught up with him.

RIP Bobby RIP.

I met him, and had a few drinks with him in 2010 when he came to Tucson to sit in with a local band. great down to earth dude. BTW he never played in Buddy Holly's band. he knew buddy and the crickets though.

He played on solo albums of ALL four Beatles !
Great contributions to Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs & Englishmen as well as Eric Clapton's first LP.

I saw him at the Keswick Theatre in March 2012, peforming all of the songs he made hits.

RIP Bobby Keyes -- a great loss for music
While Can't You Hear Me Knockin' is among the best of Bobby's playing, Elton/John L's Whatever Gets U Thru The Night is Really energized thanks to his sax too -- among the Many other songs he enlivened in his career

Wow - glad I caught him twice with teh Suffering Basterds he toured with a few years back. Absolutley a true rock and roller from his playing to his lifestyle. For those that dont have it - worth checking out his solo alblum - it is great!

I caught Mr. Keys in NYC's Highline Ballroom with The Suffering Bastards. Great show! Bobby signed some books afterwards and I asked him to write something special on the book. It was called Every Nights A Saturday Night. He added "And every day's a Sunday", Nice Gent and Great musician. I can hear his signature blurts in my head as I type. RIP Sir.

Lost another one! Bobby Keys was truly one of the great unsung heroes of modern rock-n-roll music. What a resume! Along with all the great artist that he worked with, he posted quite an impressive run with Austin's own Joe Ely. Wow! I have so many great memories of seeing Joe Ely with David Grissom on guitar and Bobby Keys on sax during the 80's. When this man took a solo he would literally blow sparks out of that sax. I have stood in the crowd shaking my head many nights listening what this guy could do.

I just listened to "Sticky Fingers" the other night on my stereo turned way up loud! Oh my gosh! goosebumps all over when this guy plays. For those who haven't read Keith Richards latest book there are some amazing stories about him and Bobby Keys ability to party for days without going to sleep. so funny!

Next Time you hear the Stones and a saxophone drifts into the speakers, stop and soak it in, he was one of a kind!

Way too sad. Glad we got to see him do his thing with the Stones twice in Boston last year.
My wife loves saxophones in any music, she is very sad too.

TOP 10 BOBBY KEYS ROLLING STONES SONGS
http://ultimateclassicrock.com/bobby-keys-rolling-stones-songs/

"If you believe in the magic of rock & roll, which I devoutly do, it isn't in the individual," Keys told Rolling Stone in 2012. "Ive played in bands with A-team players around, but unless they can play together, it doesnt do any good."

"The Rolling Stones are devastated by the loss of their very dear friend and legendary saxophone player, Bobby Keys," the band said in a statement. "Bobby made a unique musical contribution to the band since the 1960s. He will be greatly missed."

Born on the same day as Richards, the two became fast friends. Keys became Richards' late night partner and accomplice in offstage antics, once throwing a television out of a hotel balcony in 1972. But his wild ways became even too wild for the Stones. On their 1973 European tour, he missed a commitment and Richards found him in his bathtub full of Dom Perignon. "Hes got a cigar, bathtub full of champagne and this French chick with him," Richards recalled in Life. "And he said, ' **** off'."

I have lost the largest pal in the world and I can't express the sense of sadness I feel, although Bobby would tell me to cheer up," Stones guitarist Keith Richards said in a statement. "My condolences to all that knew him and his love of music.

It sounds like besides being an incredible musician, he definitely lived life on his own terms.

God bless him

RIP Bobby Keys

Spinning Heartbreaker right now. Keys along with the other sax player just rip it big time. The horns really make the song go.
