I hate it when I hear ANY guitarist heralded as "THE greatest". This would include those that I consider among the greatest. There are just too many really, really great ones out there.

Jimmy Page is my "favorite of all time" but he is not the greatest of all time. The greatest of all time as far as I'm concerned is Jimi Hendrix. Too bad guys like Segovia and Django Reinhardt are overlooked because that did not play rock and roll and many other reasons.

Top 10 lists, like people's opinions, are like A$%holes. Everybody's got one. They spark some great debate just like this and makes for great reading.

At least she shows Zeppelin and classic rock some respect, most of those types of shows don't. I remember Clapton sitting in with Letterman's band for a whole show and Dave barely acknowledged him. Two long lame interviews with actors and long stupid human tricks and no time for a three time HOF legend?

I believe it was Guitar World that stated many years ago speaking of Jimmy Page said that "even if he never played another note {post Zeppelin} that he has cemented his place in {guitar/rock/music} history." Oh yes James Patrick Page will always be one of the all time greats. I just wish his playing could once again reach the heights it once did.

page has secured his place in history, as the guy who gets sued every 3 years for ripping off another song.

Well perhaps in your mind, Matt. But to deny his skill, writing and production is just silly. Considering the success of the albums and Zeppelin, I think a couple of people like Page just fine.

The blues songs were Plant stealing lyrics. Musically there was very little that was the same and even when similar it was greatly changed. The whole Spirit lawsuit is just silly. One similar chord pattern that lasts for 10 seconds and then the songs are nothing alike. The guy suing didn't even play that chord.

No.

But doesn't make her opinion less valid than yours or mine.

Still cool to see Jimmy on shows like hers and Letterman. She showed him lots of respect and seemed to be a fan.

lol jake holmes won the dazed and confused lawsuit. The blues stuff is straight knockoffs lyrically. The guy from spirit who wrote and played that song is dead so doubt randy is suing at all

It is so hard to say who is the greatest. Everybody has their favorites. I listen to Duane allman and he just gives me chills. I can't even imagine what else he would of brought to the table had he lived longer. I have many I love.
Rory Gallagher
Paul Kossoff
Robin trower
Warren haynes
Tony iommi
Derek trucks
dickey Betts

They are all completely different from one another.

Actually, Letterman is a huge music fan and is often very vocal about what he digs. He is a huge Allman Brothers fan and would have them on all of the time in the 1990s. Same with Levon and The Band in the 1990s. He'd also have random guys like Jimmy Smith sit in on organ or Warren Zevon, and you could tell he was digging it. Maybe Dave was cranky or maybe he's just not a Clapton fan. Maybe Clapton didn't want the spotlight.

I know Dave likes music. But he has not often talked/interviewed musicians. They played and he walks out and shakes hands as the credits roll. Dave showed Jimmy respect also and had some fun too. I enjoyed that one too.
