(long and rambling - I know! )

So... I'm reading my Sunday paper here in Middle Earth and come across 'Rowland Archer from Wake Forest, NC and his wife Lana ...' mentioned in the USA Weekend magazine insert. Well - it made me think of this place and some pretty great people who I've gotten the chance to meet on the page and in person and the two who made it all possible and it made me smile and it made my morning.

It's been kind of a bittersweet week living with thoughts of life coming full circle and the knowledge that 'nothing gold can stay' (thanks WW). The ABB are calling it quits ... we've lost another of the great ones with Jack Bruce passing ... My 1st of many ABB shows was in 1970 (I have no idea how many ... I don't keep count - but nowhere near close to the #'s of many here). Cream I saw in '68 (once ... that I can track ) From then to now ... that's a huge chunk of this girls life! How to say 'Goodbye'? I think with music there are no goodbyes ... instead I'll just keep saying 'hello' as I continue playing this music that's never been far from my player (or my heart) and doesn't get 'old' and always gets replaced should vinyl scratch or CD crack. Maybe the road doesn't go on forever. But you can carry some things forward with you and it can live through you.

Congratulations to those who are going to be/have been present for these last shows - I am excited for you! You are in the midst of something special. I made the decision a while back that it was not going to be do-able for me but LOL ... I will confess to being online Monday night checking air fare and hotels on the UWS and even the dreaded StubHub (something I've vowed never to do) because that sensible no-can-do idea became wack to me (then my fever broke ). There is nothing like the Brothers at the Beacon ... it's like peanut butter and jelly ... made-to-be-goes-together. I was really happy to read about some random acts of kindness being laid on some of the folks who are the heart and soul of this site - that is the way life should be and I think it speaks to the magic that is this place. It's been great reading the reviews and set lists the past couple of days - thanks for sharing your experiences and letting those of us who can't be there in person live vicariously through you as this clock ticks down. (These weekend shows have made me very happy.) This 'thanks' goes for the pictures and videos posted, too, and for any tapers who are present to record this for posterity. THANK YOU!

That Gregg Allman dude is right - y'all ARE a great bunch!

Cool to hear about R & L.
I think congrats should also go to those who come here with show reviews.
The good ones...and the bad ones.

Well said...it has been a great and bumpy ride for all! As for Jack Bruce he never got the credit he so deserved. In my opinion.

Well said. Great to see some of the posters in this thread. So many people here that have touched my life that I've never even seen face to face. Very cool.

Well put. Thanks. To me it is like the Beatles break up..... harsh reality versus a romantic vision of what could have been in our minds. A bittersweet flavored, sepia toned memory which never quite makes total sense. Oh well................... If a person leaves a mark on history, then they have done well. Jessica and Liz Reed are momentous, yes, compositions that will endure as musical home runs, for history. Fillmore East album (original) is a 100% perfect piece of history. Yes without Duane, what would it be, but without Dickey the same can be said. I thank Creator for meeting some fine and special folk from here that changed my life. Dickey, in a round about destiny kind of way gave me that gift also.
