I'm hoping for reviews of all these Beacon TTB shows.

Bump?

Well I gotta say, TTB seem to be taking a concerted approach towards changing their vibe to more of a ABB/Beacon vibe. When Taj counted off the 2nd song, I was like "Oh no, if they go into Statesboro Blues, theyre REALLY gonna cause some friction", but they didnt. Taj sounded incredible. Him and Jerry came out in the encore and did Leavin Trunk and Rollin and Tumblin. Some very interesting/fun chemistry between all the players on the last tune, they seemed to be unsure of who to hand off the solos to, resulting in a few funny/confused glances between Derek, Susan, and the rest of the boys.

Jerry is a tremendous player, but it took me some getting used to for there to be a 5-song acoustic set in the middle of a TTB show. The horn players and other singers had to take a backseat during most of that set, and I would prefer to hear this entire band fire on all cylinders like they usually do.

It wasnt a very predictable set for TTB; not their usual covers, and barely anything off of the latest record.

Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring (Traffic)
Do I Look Worried?
Don't Miss Me
Keep On Growing (Derek and the Dominos)
Midnight in Harlem
More and More (Little Milton)

Set with Jerry Douglas
Idle Wind
On A Monday (Leadbelly)
These Walls
Done Somebody Wrong
Dont Think Twice, It's Alright

W/ Taj Mahal
Diving Duck Blues
Everybody Got to Change Sometime

Bound for Glory
The Storm

Encore: Leaving Trunk w/ Taj and Jerry
Rollin and Tumblin w/Taj and Jerry

F'g amazing show. Just got home. It was far from the usual TTB show. I had heard a rumor of "special guests" on the way there and that tonight (or last night at this point) and tonight's would be video taped. I assume the usual tapers were there as well (shout out to Joe "Beacon") but I was in the balcony so didn't see them. I'm in the balcony tonight and next Friday as well. Good seats for next Saturday night.

"These Walls" with just Susan and Jerry (no Derek) on acoustics and band was beautiful!
The whole sit-down Jerry set was so unexpected!
Taj's set was fun as were the encores. A lot of good vibes and smiles all around all night on stage and in the crowd!

I saw no stand-ups mics in the orchestra. Maybe somebody had gear in the Loge?
TTB don't get much recording love at the Beacon.

Thanks for the set list 'GregB86'

The TTB show with Dickie Betts from last September showed up on Dime this past July.

I've seen TTB at least half a dozen times now and I honestly feel the energy and power growing. They are ready to unleash the Krakken.

It was a fantastic show. Like another band I know, TTB's studio albums don't do them justice - their live shows are epic. It's like mixing Mad Dogs & Englishmen with The Band and Delaney & Bonnie. Everyone is taking turns, the covers they chose are spot on, "Midnight in Harlem" always brings the crowd to its knees (it was the highlight of Wanee this year for me). When a show kicks off with a Traffic cover, I'm all in. The acoustic set was beautiful, and it was great to hear Mike get a bigger role - "More and More" and "Don't Miss Me" were great to hear. Also, regarding "Don't Miss Me", it's great to hear some DTB tunes live on.

Having just seen Jerry Douglas and Taj over the summer (Jerry with Susan Krauss and Willie Nelson at Radio City; Taj solo) it was great to see them join TTB for some really varied tunes. Acoustic "Done Somebody Wrong" and "Don't Think Twice" sounded so rich - their acoustic set hit the mark in a way that the Allman Brothers' recent acoustic sets never quite seemed to, but maybe that's just due to the crowd's expectations.

I'm going again next Friday, excited for everyone who is going tonight. Y'all are in for a great show!

From what I saw in my area of the orchestra, the usherette was stopping people from video recording.
Snapping pics was okay. It was when one held a device too long in the air. The discernible viewer light can be easily seen in the dark.

Question:
I don't have those video recording phones. After you frame what you want to video record can you shut the viewr/light off and video record "blindly"?

If not, I would tape a cardboard cover and flip it over the viewer. And peek in from the side for frame check.

About two years ago I went down to Humphrey's to catch "Alison Krauss & Union Station" for maybe the third time, just hoping for a great show and as always, I was blown away. I had my Gretsch with me, hoping to meet Jerry and have him sign. At the end of the show I waited out by the bus and was lucky enough to meet and speak with Alison for a good ten minutes or so acquiring both she and Dan Tyminski's autographs on said guitar. As I walked away it dawned on me that I had not met Jerry who was already on the bus......Next time for sure. Imho, the best dobro player on the planet, what a thrill to have seen and heard him play w/Derek & Susan...Thanks for the link.

I've known Jerry for years, but Alison and Dan..and Ron and Barry for that matter...are also all nice folks backstage and on........I'll be seeing Jerry in ten days as he is stepping up and co-hosting the IBMA Bluegrass Awards show on October 2nd, which will be broadcast live at musicityroots.com. Jerry is up for one award and I am up for two. If anybody will be floating around Raleigh the first weekend in October, let me know.

The TTB acoustic set has been a recent addition to the set list as of late......usually just two or three songs. This band keeps trying new tings, which is awesome.
