We are going to check this out Friday nite here at Hardrock.. Hollywood...

In the wake of a wildly successful twenty-five date national excursion this past March and April, the Experience Hendrix Tour is set to launch another trek across the U.S. in September and October. The Experience Hendrix Tour has been paying homage to the musical genius of Jimi Hendrix for over a decade, bringing together a diverse, all-star aggregation of extraordinary guitarists including multiple Grammy-winning Kennedy Center honoree Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Black Label Society’s Zakk Wylde.

All of the aforementioned are returning for the forthcoming edition of the Experience Hendrix Tour as are Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson, Eric Johnson, Doyle Bramhall II, Eric Gales, Mato Nanji, Ana Popovic, and Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble’s Chris Layton. As always, the legendary Billy Cox, bassist for both The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Band of Gypsys, who has anchored each Experience Hendrix Tour since inception in 2000, is on board.

Saw the show in Houston two years ago. Loved it. Will see this year's line-up in Austin in two weeks.

This is the first paragraph of a review in the Houston Press in 2012:

Experience Hendrix Tour
Arena Theatre
March 22, 2012
It was a guitar-gasm of monstrous proportions at the Arena Theatre when string shredders, bass thumpers, keyboard squealers, and one very, very hardworking drummer paid tribute to the musical legacy of Jimi Hendrix in a 3+ hour show that expertly mined the catalogue of the late musical genius.

I am looking forward to an amazing event!! Hope you have a great time, as well!

We saw the show this year in NJ and it absolutely rocked.i have to admit before The Rides I had not heard of Kenny Wayne Sheppard but he killed the Hendrix show as well. And I personally think he kicked Steven stills ass in The Rides

Going to the Bham show on 9/25. It's in a "performing art" center type theater, with lots of older "season ticket" holders and I'm afraid 1/2 the crowd is gonna be stunned & deafened. And probably leaving not too far into the first act.

Their loss!!!

Holy smokes what a show!! Caught the one in Melbourne, Fl. Eric Gales, never seen him before, what a monster on guitar with a nice vibe/feel. I liked his renditions of Hendrix plenty. Johny Lang bringing out Rich Robinson - Rich tore the roof off that place and Johnny Lang loved every minute of it. And then Johny Lang, Doyle Bramhal II and Rich on stage together was very nice. Many very interesting collaborations. Buddy Guy was Buddy Guy but it was also cool to see him playing back up after his set was done. And Kenny Wayne Shepperd (ha thought it was joe bonamasa) really stole the show. Makes more sense now. That kid is bad ass. That whole show was amazing. Billy Cox sounded good and Chris Layton looked like he was orchestrating the show. For someone who never got to see Hendrix, last night was a real treat. Many standing ovations throughout.

Wow!! Thank you for the recap! Kenny Wayne is a monster his bad self! Hes really developed as an artist and champion of the blues over the years since he was agreen kid..now he's a mature artist. Sounds like Chris Layton was the MD/Musical Director of the show. Cool that Buddy was doing back up and doing some heavy lifting for his peers. Happy you had a great time!! Thanks again!!

The Birmingham show was last night, and to echo the above, man it is a helluva night of music. Although for me personally, the whole of it was much greater than it's parts.

Most all of those guitarists, while I respect and enjoy, are not anywhere close to my favorites. Eric Johnson - too much. Jonny Lang - too dramatic. Eric Gales - at times too much. The rest of them I like but hardly love to death.

Doyle Bramhall II was my favorite. Great Jimi selection (Hear my Train on a 12 string PRS, Hey Baby, Bold as Love) and he just looks the part - giving Phil Spector a run for his money.

I'd love to know the economics of how that tour works.....
