Just curious,

Should the Fillmore Box CD's and Brothers and Sisters Box CDs be stored in regular CD cases? It seems that taking the CDs in and out of the box sets will lead to the CDs scratching. Any insight appreciated. Thx

I buy cd/dvd envelopes from Staples and store all my digipak cds in those , I also buy plastic sleeves online for the actual digipaks , I get 100 for $13.00 plus shipping . I do the same with my vinyl , plastic sleeves for the covers as well as angel sleeves for the vinyl .

Actually , after 10 years on this site I realized the only way I'm going to get to 53,000 posts is if I pad my stats a bit , LOL .

for "collectable cds" like Fillmore, Skydog, I'll copy the cds and put the copies in sleeves that I get from Staples
I leave the originals in the original packaging.

but then, I have a strange form of OCD

I buy regular CD cases ... make my own artwork for covers ... then store the cds in those so that I can put them on the racks with all my other cds ... then I put the original book style covers on the bookcase with my other books ...

... and if we are going to mention OCD ... yes they are all stored in alphabetical order of artist and chronological order - but of recording date not release date ...

... well it keeps me happy ...

Actually a good topic, I also store all mu cd's in sleeevs, hows does everyone then store them, I have many stacked on top of one another, I'm thinking this might not be the best. Bot for space it works.

For those who have many cd's do you buy cases for them to store? If so where from? Anyone build something cool to store their collectoion? Looking for ideas. Thanks Blue Sky

We got a full wall sized shelving unit from the Container Store. I keep the commercial CDs (vertical, alphabetical order by artist)in the top half, the bottom 2 shelves have my vinyl.

I the middle shelves, I store my "bootleg cd" in plastic boxes (they look kinda like nice shoe boxes) that I also got from the container store, mosty in paper sleeves lined with plastic or plastic sleeves, vertically, alphabetically by artist (in date order). I used to use the thin plastic jewel cases but they took up too much space, so I switched to paper.
I have separate boxes for the Allmans, several boxes just for GD and also Phish.
Box sets are separate, depending on how they are packaged and what shape they are.

I've run out of space - I keep telling myself I can't buy more cds or albums (or burn more shows) but...

To save space, lately I'm only burning a miniority of the shows I get - I listen on my iphone or lap top and store the files on a separate HD.
My shows are listed on db/etree and vinyl on discogs

Thanks Stormy. Good idea. Right now I have so many cd's when I try to find a particular show it takes me forever.....the Dead and JGB being ones in particular. I know the feeling, gotta slow down but them a show appears and I have to have it. I keep looking for the right size containers to hold cd's.

Thankfully I have a music room where everything music related is stored. All in alphabetical and chronological order. I can find anything I need quite easily.
