Butch Trucks Joins ZZ Top in France

Butch Trucks joined ZZ Top on Saturday night during the band’s set in Nimes, FRA for a performance of “Tush,” which closed the show. ZZ Top performed at the Festival de Nimes in the arena that was once an old Roman arena as well as a bullring.

Trucks, who recounted the sit in on his Facebook page, commended the band (who started the same year as the ABB—1969) on still going strong after all these years. He called it “one of the most original sit ins ever” due to his setup which was just a snare, tom and cymbal.

They started the song before he was even set up??. they should have let Butch play on Frank's kit, and let Frank have a smoke & a beer.

Does that mean it's kinda like Caesar's Palace?

If ZZ Top were Jewish , would they be called ZZ Dreidel?

Probably...along the same lines as if Van Halen were Jewish, one of their big hits would be "And The Dreidel Will Rock".

I thought it was a bit weird that Butch sat in with anyone. You rarely hear of that.

Agreed. A nice gesture to put him out front, but the music would've benefited if Butch were closer to Beard so he could at least get some cues.

"most original sit in"

I would vote for most insignificant... They didn't even wait for him to be completely set up before they started the song & he looked lost at times...

Had it been Warren, Derek or Gregg (even Dickey for that matter) it would have carried more weight.

That was kind of sad actually, his presence in the song was pretty much zero!

I thut you said Butch Trucks was playing the drims ... I cannot hear him with my own two eyes.

From youtube comment:

"avec en guest-star Butch Trucks, batteur du Allman Brothers Band, groupe mythique du rock nudiste."

Oops, typo it's "sudiste"

My first thought was friendship....He was probably backstage......More awkward was Billy Gibbons' slide playing on "tush", what in the hell was that?

Butch is starting to look like David Crosby.

You also rarely hear of anyone sitting in with ZZ Top.
I think one of the reasons is they run a very tight show (triggered portions & set length) & a guest wouldn't fit in or know the cues.

I thought it was hilarious they started without Butch.

That was just a mess all the way around. Butch should have politely declined the offer to "sit in".

Rarely can the phrase "sitting in" have been less appropriate.....
