So, what will happen to Hittin’ the Web after the final show in October? I assume Hittin’ the Note magazine will survive because it’s already shifted much of its focus to different, albeit like-minded, bands than the ABB, just as Relix did with the Dead after Jerry died.

But Hittin’ the Web is 99 percent ABB content, as are the fans who dial it up on a daily basis (like me) and consider it a home away from home. What will be the point now? What will we talk about? All of the family bands (TTB, Mule, Gregg) have their own web sites and I reckon that’s where most of the web traffic will go to get updates on Derek, Warren, Gregg, etc.

So, will Hittin’ the Web cease to exist? Will Rowland hit a “delete’’ button and it’s all over? Inquiring minds want to know…

I think it will live on. There are plenty of things to talk bout from past shows.. People share music here. It's a nice little community.

I hope you're right, Benulliman, but after a while just talking about old shows and old music will get, well, old. With no new shows to talk about and no new music to at least dream about, I think it will be difficult to continue on just memories. I have no idea what will happen, but it will be interesting to see what develops -- or doesn't.

Probably a good time for swapping e-mail and/or Facebook addresses with those you love the most.

Keeping this site up as a tribute to the band ... that's an idea, but I'm sure there are operational and maintenance costs involved.

Will the DTB/TTB and Mule portions (as well as Lefty Collins, Oteil, Jaimoe, Butch and Gregg) sites remain functional? Maybe a COMBINATION site for the extended family - the HTW site?

Seriously, for many of us, this incredible site has become an important social phenomena. I would sure miss it if it went away.

It's not as busy as it once was - but the site has lived on with the band playing only a a pretty light schedule the last 5 years. I think they've played less than 150 total shows the last 5 years. If the board has kept rolling when there's only 30 show days more or less a year - it'll likely keep rolling when there are 0 shows days a year. There'll still be the individual members projects, instances where former members collaborate, new projects, and surely all kinds of intrigue over the back catalogue, plus the occasional reunion rumour - especially if everyone is healthy and even quasi-active musically when the 50th anniversary date creeps near. All that ought to be enough to sustain the board at it's current level at least.
I only post occasionally but I've been reading for years and years - long before I created an account to post - I'd hate for there to be no ABB and its members discussion anymore.

I love this place and hope it stays around. I have met so many wonderful people from this site that I consider friends. Even consider folks that I haven't met face to face as friends. We have lost quite a few folks over the years but this community is one that shows compassion for each other that is uncommon these days. It truly a special place.

The best thing they should do is setup an Allman Brothers torrent link on this site for electronic trading of all the live recordings that exist. Only allow concerts from the Allman Brothers Band, Gregg Allman related recordings, Duane Allman related recordings, Butch Trucks related recordings, Jaimo related recordings, and Dickey Betts related rcordings to be uploaded & downloaded.

Finally do away with the antiquated way of sharing live recordings we all love by snail maIL That is a very old out of date way of thinking. So many bands in this modern age we live in allow torrenting of their concerts on audio & video.

It is time to approach the band and get a petition to allow electronic trading of their live recordings. Hopefully here on this site too.

Let's all get behind this movement

I've never had the opportunity to meet any of you fine people.
This site has been a comfort for me if feeling down and also great for sharing the excitement of a great moment.
There are many reasons to keep this site going but that is so easy for me to say, I don't have to do it.
I will be here as long as all of you are, happy I have a 2nd home.

We haven't discussed the future of the site with the band's management yet but most bands, actively touring or not, have a web site and I suspect the ABB will be no different. The band knows how many people have found each other through the community here and appreciates that. Lana said it in 1997 - long after the band stops touring, the extended family will still be here for each other. The music brought us together but it's not the only reason we're here.

As long as Lana and I are able, one way or the other we'll provide a place for this extended family on the web. Our first preference, and I'm guessing the most likely direction, will be to continue with this site and web address. If for any reason that doesn't work out, we'll find another way.

Hit your note,
Rowland and Lana

Thanks for that reassurance, Rowland! You and Lana - and everybody else who has a hand in this incredible sight are ... incredible! Thanks again!

Really? I figured this would be an opportune time for Lana and Rowland to retire with Gregg and his paramour du jour taking over the day-to-day duties at Hittin' the Web. Gregg's handle will be "The Oracle of Misinformation" and he will dazzle the throngs with his inaccuracies and general state of utter confusion while occasionally bringing up his belief that the band will be going into the studio soon to record new material.

Rowland -- thanks for answering my question. That's great news. I've been a member of this site pretty much from the beginning and I'm happy that you and Lana will continue on even if the band does not. Maybe the road does go on forever ....

This website will not be going anywhere!!! It will be a necessity when the reunion tour is announced a few years down the road. HTW will be used to spread the word !!!

(Remember Phish's melodramatic "breakup" back in 2004, and then they predictably came back together? Perhaps the ABB will follow suit)

How do you dazzle a thong?

I knew a stripper once who "bedazzled" her thong. But dazzled?

Poorly timed my ass. I love the band's music; I am far less enamored of the man whose surname is part of the band's name. No more free passes for Mr. Allman.

The site is good and maybe it continues because hopefully the members go on to a lot of other things Just seen Warren with Lesh in Central Park ,great show. But the way GREG had jumped the shark ,the way Greg is trying to get every last dollar out of us ,with doing multiple final runs and hinting the ABB will go on without the 2 people who gave this band a 2nd life . Kind of puts a damper on the site . I agree with GURU NO MORE PASSES for GREG Lets just hope he shows up for the final shows in Oct. lets hope he doesn't pull the hurt sick crap again and then add more shows and revenue .Don't forget this all started a few weeks agter he spent mega bucks on obtaining the rights to the movie about his life and the wrongful death lawsuit he caused by not doing his due diligence and filming on a active rail road track that he had no permit for being there ..Yes Ive complained a lot on hear that's because to many have there heads left in the 70s .My rants are not opinions they are based on facts ,and unfortunately GREG who is management has given us plenty of ammunition

Domel, Guru, take your negativity and go to TTB, Mule, and GS shows and websites. You have not walked a mile in Greg's shoes. If you don't like Gregg thats fine. Just stop bashing the man on the ABB website. His surname is the bands name. He has been the voice of this band for 45 years. Set up your own I don't like Gregg site. Don't give him your dollar. Why would you want to go to a show when you clearly don't like Gregg. If you want to see the others preform go to their respective bands shows.

You do know Gregg never wanted to be the band leader or the band spokesman. It becomes more and more obvious, as heaps of abuse are channelled his way, why he would have preferred to stay in the background.

It can always stay open so people will have a place to come trash Susan, ridicule Duane Bett's playing, say that the last time you Dickey was so drunk 4 roadies had to hold him up and to question the audacity of Derek and Warren to ever want to leave the band

Oh and if Butch can make money off it, it will continue

You are a lowlife scum who doesn't even know how to spell GREGG's name. "hurt sick crap"........I tell you, man, that is just about as LOW as it gets. Gregg is SO loved and respected here, as he should be.............an ICON in the world of music. We have no place here for a complete ass like you who would ridicule our dearly loved and golden-voiced legend of contemporary music. There is plenty of compassion and love here for Mr. Gregg Allman and his health difficulties. We don't need negativism from a scumbag like you floating around here poisoning this website. GET THE HELL OUT. Or as Lisajess suggested,
