I finally saw Mr. Thackery at the Funky Biscuit in Boca Raton,Florida. I was very impressed. I am sorry it took so long for me to see this great guitarist.

I have to say, they only times I've heard him is on a couple of Tab Benoit albums. There, neither his guitar nor (especially) his vocals stand up to Tab's (for me).

Just saw him here in San Jose, he tore it up as he ALWAYS does. Very reminiscent of Dick Dale at times, got that surf twang going on, but he's great at hard core blues as well. Can't really say much about his vocals, but you don't go see Jimmy Thackery for vocals. Most of it was instrumental.

Thackery used to play around Bham quite a bit in the mid 90's, and did several events for the local blues society.

Until...one of the gals on the Board...had a biiiiiit too much to drink...and stuck a Magic City Blues Society bumper sticker on the back of one his Strats.

He was none too happy, understandably.

Thackery is a great player! Even I though I liked him with the Nighthawks more.

With the Nighthawks.

Aside from Willie Dixon and the Chicago Blues Allstars, the Nighthawks (with Jimmy Thackery) are probably the most bad-@$$ band I've ever seen in a club. Jimmy's one of those names to keep up your sleeve when those "best guitarist who is not a world name" debates come up.
