I love this tune a lot. One of the best I heard in years from this band. Do you think Warren was paying homage to Pink Floyd, or is it just coincidental? A lot of it is identical to Breathe and Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

I love the tune too! The more I listen to Shout! the more I like the whole album.

I think Warren is always paying homage to his musical influences - but what the heck do I know...

I always thought 'Captured' may be a song about/dedicated to Warren's new son.

It sounds a helluva lot like Breathe. It's probably not a coincidence, as Mule has played it before, as well as a bunch of other Floyd tunes @ the Orpheum Theatre in Boston on Halloween 2008: most of DSOTM, Shine on, Fearless, Pigs on the Wing, Comfortably Numb, One of These Days, Have a Cigar, Wish You Were Here. Here's that show on Panicstream: http://www.panicstream.net/vault/govt-mule-10312008-boston-ma/

I've got to say I hear a lot of Neil Young influence in the song as well.

I hear some Traffic influence in "When the World Gets Small".

Not to say that Warren is aping anyone. I hear completely fresh and original compositions when I listen to "Shout!" and love the whole album.

Love this song. Though I prefer the Jim James version

I read or heard an interview with Warren wherein he said it definitely has a Floyd influence albeit more subconscious. He wrote the song and then realized it sounded Floydish. it's funny how your influences come out without thinking about it sometimes.
