Listening to the live broadcast on Sirius of the Wanee show , and maybe I'm a little biased ( 'cause we were at the last Beacon show), but seems to me the same songs done at Wanee were not up to par w/ the Beacon version . . . don't seem to have the spark,.... whataya think ?
Missed Gregg , but Warren , Derek , JIMMY HALL !!!! , Jr., et al, really let it eat at the Beacon finale !!!
Peace to all

that's festivals for u. Most bands take these festivals as easy money ,working vacations .Allmans no different . I ve seen them at festivals my whole life and yes Wannee is one of them There good but never legendary .You enjoy everything about the festival ,the atmosphere the different bands interacting on stage with each other ,the party, but If you break down most performances individually at festivals with most bands compared to when there playing there own shows for just there fans who paid just to see them ,9 out 0f 10 times your going to get there best when they are the only draw///.I know a lot of people on here forget that this is a business first ,it might not be what was on there mind when they started but ,bands had to change there attitude to whats best for the business ,how do u get the best return on investment .ALLMNS are no different ,no bands are today ,they cant be. If they didn't change with the times then they would be gone .When I posted something along the same lines a few weeks back of course I had to hear it from the people who think there the only true fans and the band can do no wrong. Maybe when I seen them in73 on long island when I was 16 it was like that not no more ,business first That's why we are getting Peach Grams (really) to buy the Wanee Cds already .IMO the fact that they have totally blown off even talking about make up beacon shows makes my point obvious and valid.More so because its the beacon, the last shows and the last year.

Personally I think not only are they going to resc the 4 postponed Beacon shows but I can see them adding another 6 and doing another 10 show run. The 1st 10 shows sold out in record time and demand for ABB Beacon tickets were never higher.

If they are gonna get together to play those 4 dates anyway, why not have a 2nd Beacon run?

True ...it is a business, but, I did not make the Beacon shows and hope for a summer tour.
I thought the Wannee shows were good. I didn't pay for a ticket and still got to hear and record them.
Mountain Jam might be my only chance to see um. I hope not, I enjoy them the most @SPAC don't matter what they play.

TonyT,
I attended the last two Beacon shows and the Friday night Wanee show (had to leave on Sat at noon) so let me take a stab at answering your question. Typically I find the Beacon shows better (both viewing and then later listening on the CDs) than the festival shows. I always felt that it had more to do with the sound and beauty of the Beacon along with an intensity in the group's playing that I cannot better describe. This past friday, however, I felt that same Beacon intensity. I am attending primarily to see Derek and Warren work their magic and their jams seemed right on on Friday night. My final verdict will come when I listen to the CDs. The only weak song of the bunch was the encore, Southbound. I'm interested in more of your comments from the radio perspective. A great follow up question would be if you could only attend one (Wanee or Beacon) which would it be.

Beacon. Actually, I go to both, but only pay for seats up front at the Beacon. Watch the festivals from anywhere. Although, the Liz Reed at Peach last summer would have been worth seeing up close.

Browntrut they sold out in record time because we all thought it was the last tour ,only to find out now its not .Thousands were spent on people flying in for this last tour ,People like me in NY paid a lot more than I would normally because it was the last tour. what is so fishy to me is management knows this ,the beacon run was no Greg for 2 nights, even if the shows were good people paid extra this year to see a complete band ,or they didn't play at all for 4 nights at one of there all time best venues on record, with no announcement on when they would play those shows .. Of all the bands that u would think would never let this crap go on,has conformed finally .Could it be that the brothers have jumped the shark???? is this the beginning of the end???

With festivals you generally have not as much time to play. You want to play as many songs as possible so you don't jam as much.

I would suggest that it is an apples to oranges comparison. I have been to Wanee 5 times and the Beacon countelss times and the main difference is the experience. The Beacon is ABB centric while Wanee is the Brothers headlining. At the Beacon you stay in hotels or you live in the area and go to the shows, go sightseeing etc. At Wanee, we are a community of over 200 souls at Helen's Hilton and regardless of the music that is a big plus. At the Beacon, we do interact with the members of the band at the various bars that we frequent, at Wanee, the players come to us at the Hilton. In the end, the music is as good in either location, the sound may not be as quality at the outdoor shed but the players bring it. I thought this years shows at Wanee were musically solid and as good as the shows I saw in NYC. My 2 cents.............

Yo Kdick,
If you loved Wanee so much why didn't you and Craig ever let those kids out of the RV. Sorry Ken, I just can't let this one go. One of my all time great pics. All kidding aside as usual I agree with what you said. I think I lean toward Wanee for the overall experience. And what sweet weather.
