Funny how he says they're replacing Derek but doesn't mention replacing Warren. Something fishy here.

Its really just more of the same from Gregg. Doesn't mention Oteil either nor that he is the one who he said it to begin with.

'We don't need new songs or guitar players,' continued Allman. 'What matters is the paycheck we get when the marquee says 'Allman Brothers.''

Have fun, guys, assuming you can actually go through with this. I'll be busy doing anything else. I'm sorry to see you treat your own history like garbage yet again and kind of insult your fans along the way, but I'm not totally surprised and I'll do my best to just ignore it instead of having it interfere with my enjoyment of worthwhile music.

Also, a little hat tip to Gregg for saying the reports about the band retiring were "a rumor" when the source of the reports was a direct quote from Gregg himself.

Sounds like he is counting on the "ignorant" fan, who buys tickets without knowing exactly who is in the band. Welcome to "Skynyrdville"

No Thank You.

Not surprised at all. Are any of you?

Let's see if it actually happens. Maybe they are only going to add 1 guitar player. Maybe they add a keyboard player or something.

Whatever the band is, it won't be as good as Warren and Derek.

A band this big and this legendary really should have better PR skills or at least a PR rep who coaches them on media relations. However this should keep the speculation going.

The replacement(s) need to make a big splash otherwise it will quickly become diminishing returns at the box office.

Or the fan who doesn't give a **** who the guitar players are.

And a bass player. Or maybe Gregg always wanted a kazoo player instead of a bassist. His vision for the band has always been great! It'll cut down on those long jams nobody likes!

Oh, that's coming no matter what they do. And don't forget they'll be done in a couple of years anyway. Given a choice between going out strong and cashing as many checks as they can, when, here's your answer.

When they played the Virginia Beach shed last Summer there were many, many tickets available. I don't see a new iteration of the band being able to make much money.

I don't know man, If it is as some on this site say, it won't matter. Since "Most" are there to hear the "Hits"....maybe Gregg is correct, will it make a difference who is playing them? I mean, we "Hardcore" fans are in the minority....right?

Gregg likes to play often. They will go down to small theatre size and still make some bucks. Reincarnating and reinventing songs is Greggs forte.

Kind of reminds me of Charles Barkley's autobiography when he said he was misquoted in it.

You know if this is true it doesn't bug me as much as it seems to bug a few of you. I find it intriguing to see what they will do next. One thing I will say about the ABB is that they have ALWAYS had a smoking band, no matter who was in it. I honestly don't even care anymore to hear new music. I have hardly seen them in the last 20 years, so if I have the opportunity I would and I wouldn't mind hearing them play from their catologue. I just may not like the ticket price

I suspect this will raise more Betts speculation, but I would doubt that. Now if money is that big of an issue for them, than the money ball option is Betts

What songs has he reinvented other than his solo version of Whipping Post 20 years ago?

"... The fight took place on October 2, 1980 in Las Vegas with Holmes easily dominating Ali, who was weakened from thyroid medication he had taken to lose weight. ... Actor Sylvester Stallone at ringside said it was like watching an autopsy on a man who is still alive. Ali's trainer Angelo Dundee finally stopped the fight in the eleventh round, the only fight Ali lost by knockout. The Holmes fight is said to have contributed to Ali's Parkinson's syndrome. Despite pleas to definitively retire, Ali fought one last time on December 11, 1981 in Nassau against Trevor Berbick, losing a ten-round decision. "

- final paragraph of Wikipedia entry on Muhammad Ali

This is not how I want to see Duane's band remembered.

I can only think of possibly 2 others. He does a very different version of Statesboro with his own band and Wasted Words sounds completely different from the original.

If they get a real high quality replacement like Jack Pearson or Junior Mack I would probably check them out if they played near by SE Wi or Chicagoland. I suspect my days of traveling a couple thousand miles to see them are over though.

I am not going to say much but I do think reading this and worrying about what it means for next year is on the wrong track. If you don't think Warren is beyond exasperated with this statement I don't know what to say.

So Jack no longer suffers from tinnitus?....Seems like that would be pretty important.

I have no idea if he does or not. He did fill in for Warren in Chicago a few years back and he was just in the house band for Greggs tribute in Atlanta. Who knows?
