Made In Japan was recorded live over three nights during August 15 17, 1972 at Festival Hall, Osaka and Budokan, Tokyo. Four of the tracks come from the band s 1972 Machine Head album. It featured what many consider the classic Deep Purple lineup Ian Gillan (Vocals), Ritchie Blackmore (Guitars), Roger Glover (Bass), Jon Lord (Organ) and Ian Paice (Drums). Originally recorded only for the Japanese market, the album has since become seen as one of Deep Purple s seminal albums, and one of the greatest live albums of all time (A Rolling Stone reader s poll in 2012 voted Made In Japan as the sixth greatest live album of all time).

For 2014, the album has been newly remastered and presented in a number of special formats. The format options include previously unseen footage on DVD, bonus material and mixes, memorabilia and a hardback book.

This Limited Edition Deluxe Boxed Set includes remastered audio of all three complete shows across 4CDs, a DVD featuring rare documentary and live footage, a 7" promo single, and a 60+ Page hard bound book filled with rare and previously unseen photos and memorabilia.

I Love this Album.
I have a question that I bet someone can answer.

In the movie "Twister" there is a scene where they are chasing a tornado (or maybe one is chasing them) and "Child In Time" from Made In Japan is blaring. The Character played by Philip Seymour Hoffman has a monitor with video footage of Deep Purple playing the song and it appears to be from the album performance. Obviously from the track listing above they have video of Smoke On The Water. Is there video footage of these shows other than that? I just wondered if the scene in the movie makes use of a diiferent performance on video synched up with the Made In Japan Audio or if it really is footage of that performance.

Yeah it was the wrong lineup.

For any that have not heard all the different shows from the Made In Japan recordings, don't be fooled by the identical setlists. Some songs are very different and all are unique. In my opinion some of the other versions are stronger than those chose for the original album. There may be an odd bum note from ian or someone but some of the solos and vocals are out of this world. One of the versions of Child In Time absolutely smokes the version on the original.
