I'm listening to disc 1 from the excellent 3/18 show. "Makes No Difference" has an annoying ticking sound throughout the entire song.

I bought the disc for $25 at the 3/19 show. I hummed and hawed thinking, "who pays $25 for CD's these days?" Now I have to deal with Munck's infamous customer service to find a solution.

Good idea in theory. Instant Live seemed to pull it off with minimal mistakes. I wonder why Munck is having problems?

good luck with their customer service.....

as for munch vs instant live----yeah...wish it were still instant live...

thiose guys at least cared about the product they put out......

to me---the people at munch just didnt care when i talked to them in person many a year ago.....

i had sent them numerous emails without any response and when i asked them that in person about why they didnt respond----they kinda put the blame on me saying that there was no way that they wouldnt respond to an email and that i should check my spam folder as it may have went in there...

i kinda looked at them crosseyed after that.....

no offense.....but, i really dont see why people buy them at the show (other than not knowing) when munch goes back and remasters them to make them sound better and puts them up for download later....

and to me---it doesnt say much about munch if they dupe their "in concert" customers into buying an inferior product.......

Good luck. I think you're gonna need it.

I emailed them last week about two problems with my 3/7 discs and I haven't heard back. I wrote them again today, but that experience and their other mistakes were frustrating enough that I won't be buying their CDs anymore. It wasn't until a couple of days ago that I heard they now post the shows on their website within a few days and that they fix their mistakes in the process. That used to take longer. So I won't be buying CDs at the shows anymore. And if the CDs they sell at the shows are going to be rough drafts like this, they ought to be cheaper than the cleaned-up downloads.

Yea I stopped buying them at the show a few years ago, I had bought a cd for a show I was at in 09, somewhere over the years I lost it so I bought it from the Munck site. A couple days later I found the discs and I when I listened to them again I thought they sounded bad, compared them to the tracks bought off the site and sure enough the disc sounded crappy in comparison.

If I'm not mistaken aren't the CDs like 25 bucks? And the download is 15?

I talked to one of the guys representing the company before the show and he assured me they didn't remaster the music. That the way it was burned at the show was how it would sound later. I brought up Marley's experience earlier in the run and he gave me some jive.

I guess I wanted a record, any record of the show ASAP.

I won't be buying another at the shows and suggest to all to spend their 25 bucks more wisely than I spent mine.

So what is the consensus on the best place to buy the live discs? Is the quality of discs on HTN site worthy?

See y'all this weekend!

I always thought the quality of Munck sounded horrible overall when compared to Instant Live recordings. Munck's are flat lacking any definition or punch just sterile bass,I find it very hard to listen too as it gives a horrible example of what is truly heard live from the band ....
As far as customer service goes it's as good as their products....

The same clicking sound was happening throughout "Ain't Wasting Time No More" from my CD of the 3/19 show that I bought on Wednesday night so I emailed Munck Music yesterday. I listened to the whole show and that was the only track/CD I noticed it on. I just heard back from them this morning, they said they're sending me a replacement. Hopefully everyone else gets theirs resolved soon also.

Had no idea their discs could be kind of shoddy. I've downloaded the mp3s from their site for multiple shows, and have never had a problem with them.

I received an email this morning requesting my address to send a replacement. So far, so good. I consider that good response time.

This is my reply...

Wow. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I was told on the ABB forum to expect really bad customer service. I'll make sure I relate my experience to that forum.

When do you think I can expect the replacement?

Hopefully all this will work out. I will definitely update the forum as this plays out.

And they emailed me just now to say they will send me replacements for the two affected tracks. And an extra download because my first email got lost, which is very nice of them and it looks like a great show (3/7/12).

What were the 2 problems on the 3/7 discs? Clicking on Ain't wasting time was one. What was the other issue?

To be honest, I think the sound has more to do with the whomever is the person mixing it live... Since they are going straight to CD. So if that is the ABB's guy, then it wouldn't matter which company is issuing them. (Although I don't know if it is the ABB's guy).

The clicking noise almost sounds more like a CD problem though... (I haven't heard it though).

One thing I like about Munck is that we have been getting every show (or almost)... where as with Instant Live they were skipping over several shows. (I believe this had something to do with venue rights or something).

I thought the 2005 Instant Live sound was stellar, but before (and after) that it was hit and miss. And I've mentioned this in several other threads... but I think the drums & percussion are usually WAY to buried in the mix.

Lastly, I've been buying FLAC's of the shows for years and they certainly DO NOT remaster them. They are exactly as they are after the show... warts and all.

I wish they didn't fade out at the end of each disc, or if they had a way to overlap the end of each disc, so you can make a continuous file... And at this point, most of the shows could fit on 2 discs, not 3.

from my experience---they do remix the sound afterwards...

case in point----the red rocks show of 08---the CD i bought at the show sounded horrible....like someone threw a blanket over my speakers...

after i complained, in person, to the owner of munch, who stated that they remix the shows afterwards, they sent me a replacement copy of the red rocks show that sounded much better....

Agreed. Just buy it later. Before instant downloads in FLAC I would just have instant live either mail the CD of the concert to me, or just buy it later once they'd remastered the CDs and fixed any issues.

I want to keep this thread alive seeing as I've not received my replacement disc. I emailed Mike at Munck today. Been about 5 hours and no response. Based on his email correspondence I should have received the disc first week of April.

I gotta say... this really burns my grits. I've bought plenty from that company over the years. I'm just glad I've not yet bought the other shows I want.

I purchased March 19 show as a download and I am very disappointed with the sound quality. Flat, lifeless, compressed, cymbals not very strong, drums sound pinched. I have given them multiple chances, 2010, 2011, this is the last time. Mediocre product.

The best of the 2004 Instant Live recordings are incredible, with out front crystal clear cymbals, thick bass, lots of depth and everything else mixed just right.

How come Pearl Jam, Widespread Panic offer excellent quality live recordings for sale as downloads. I have purchased from both bands and while some are slightly better than others the quality is always good or excellent.

I have heard many on this site offer excuses for Munck, like what do you expect its live, blame it on the venue etc. Well Pearl Jam and WSP live recordings are consistently top quality.
