Wow. Doesn't Butch say/claim that he is the only person who has performed at every single Allman Brothers concert?

I think that's right. He had quite a run going, but even freight trains have malfunctions from time to time.

Knowing his record, this poster at the big house caught my attention a few yrs ago:

Gregg's health has been in the news the past few years, and I think most fans think of him as the main reason why the band can't last forever. Another reason for the ABB to hang it up while they are still playing well is that Butch and Jaimoe can't keep it up much longer. Butch has had issues with his knees and so forth for years now.

That may or may not be the reason Butch missed the show, but it's certainly possible.

Big reason i cant see this band continuing with Derek and Warren is because Warren provides a great deal of relief for Gregg. Warren sings if not 1/3 of the time than 1/2 the time. Warren sings most of the newer cover songs. Gregg won't sing Into The Mystic or The Weight. Warren holds this band together so much. Could they find another guitar/lead singer? Sure. But Warren really carries a lot of this band through this generation.

Yes, 1st one onstage Butch has ever missed, it seems -- sat out Stand Back on EAP, also LLou & some other WLorD cuts -- yes the poster speaks volumes --
was it just Jaimoe & Marc for some of it, or Duane on his dad's kit...all good
actually not really -- for Butch to miss a gig he must really be under the weather -- get well soon bro!

That would be, Duane on his uncle's kit.

Basically Duane and Marc split the show on Butch's kit: Duane played Butch's drums for eight songs and Marc played it for seven. When Duane sat in, Marc played percussion, and on most of the songs where Marc played drums, Bobby Allende played percussion. For the last two songs, Duane was on drums with Jaimoe and Marc and Bobby played percussion.

It's less than a third most of the time.

I read One Way Out last week and unless I'm crazy there was an anecdote about Butchie missing a show because he had taken too many refreshments. I can't remember the era or show. Alan Paul r u reading this??

Butch told the story once about a gig they did with GD and he got dosed, despite his best efforts to prevent it from happening. He was trippin' too hard to play, so he had to step away from the gig mid set. He said that GD personnel used a squirt gun to soak his drink which was sitting down by his feet. To hear him tell the story, which was at a stop at the Big House, was a real treat, and funny as hell.

I'm not positive, but I think that was the Cow Palace show on 12/31/73. Butch played a regular-length set with the Allmans, more or less, before the Dead joined in.

I remember this, The man's name was Owsley Stanley, the Dead's recording engineer.....

As unlikely as it is, if the Brothers hit the stage next year with Jack Pearson on guitar, Junior Mack on guitar & vocals, and Chuck Leavell on piano, I would go in a heartbeat and they would do serious justice to the ABB catalogue. Junior is a major vocal & guitar talent. Plus, we'd get to hear them play Dilemma, which would be a monster ABB track in the vein of Nobody Knows, as it is when JJB plays it!

If Oteil didn't want back in for another round (he may very well do limited shows with the band if he was still free to pursue his other projects), David Stoltz would be a great choice on bass; he was runner up on the gig when Oteil was hired and has played with Dickey & Jaimoe significantly since.

I think this is probably the end, but I'd be for Gregg, Butch, Jaimoe & Marc (and Oteil) returning with those guys for the Beacon & Wanee next year.
