I'm having quite a laugh at the notion of crowdfunding the telecast of the final concerts of one of the biggest bands in American history.

Really wish I could make it to Manchester. I made the vitally ignorant mistake (married 12 years, I should know better) of talking about calendar dates to do anything without asking the wife about conflicts first. Sigh. Plus, a whole pile of extended family chit to deal with in the last few months doesn't help.

I sure do hope everyone has fun, and I haven't been around too terribly much but I also hope everyone is doing well in general these days.

so ...

after see TTB on various TV/computer broadcasts, finally got to see them in person.

Was expecting a typical mid tempo groove thang they have been doing, but not last night.

They came out with "Made Up Mind" and kept on going. "IdleWind" was cool, so I waited for them to slow it down a bit to hit the head. 6 songs in Derek had a chair brought out and they did a country blues tune by Blind Willie Johnson. Couldn't catch the title or the lyrics 'cause some dude as big as Cujo with an even larger head, switched places with his gf so he could talk to his buddy. And talk and talk. I finally said to my wife kinda loudly that big head is pissin me off. The knuckleheads toned down after that.

TTB did "Midnight in Harlem" and that was the one mid tempo slow piece until "Darling ..." as the first encore.

They ended with the Storm and Derek just went off. And off. The horn section left, Susan stood there and at one point stopped playing with a dropped jaw. Even Kofi was laughing hard.

The Bass player, who's name escapes me at the moment, reminded me of that Chris Katan and Will Ferrell skit where they go to the clubs and bounce their heads the whole time. That's pretty much what he did the entire show.

Speaking of Kofi, he was high in the mix and he really did the funky clavinet thing very coolly.

Overall a really good show. Much better than the Mt Jam broadcast.

Also, Susan is one hell of a guitar player. At one point her and Derek were leaning into each other trading licks like Derek and Warren use to do. Playing that strat, she's got that nice blackface tone ala SRV going.

the venue was odd though

ok, it's two miles from my house. But the stage was built next to the old auditorium (same place I graduated HS in '86). Folding chairs in rows back to the parking lot which faces the road to get there. We sat three rows in front of the soundboard. another 15 rows back was a gate to the parking lot. And right there was where I parked.

At one point the car alarm went off. My wife was off to the head, turned around and started yelling it was our car. I pulled the keys out and over my shoulder hit the alarm and evberything was groovy again. The whole section gave me an ovation and a laugh.

I think I might try to go pay the $5 parking and sit in the parking lot to see/hear a show.
We'll see. Can only go up but I'd recommend it.
