I love this band.

Never seen 'em live but want to.

Am I too late?

Anyhow, am plugged into their website, but when do they usually announce tour dates?

I used to catch The Hip quite often when I lived up in the Buffalo, NY area, they are still one of my favorite bands, even though they never play the Carolina's where I live now. I wish they would play the Charlotte area, there are a lot of Western New York transplants down here now and I'm pretty sure they could sell out the Fillmore on a weekend night, I used to email them several times a year asking for a date here, I'm going to try again.
My favorite discs by them are "Road Apples" and "Fully and Completely", I turned my uncle on to them too and He loves the Road Apples CD.

I LOVE the hip & I've seen them many times over the years ~ I live in the Buffalo area where they have been huge since their inception ~ they always sell out anywhere around & we've traveled to Canada to see them too, which gets even more hip & crazy! they are an excellent live band ~ never know what to expect from front man Gord Downie ~ he's along the lines of an insane genius ~ very theatrical ~ eclectic. Their studio albums are all decent in my opinion as well ~ I have my favorite songs by them, but I can't really say there are any I don't like.
Like Dipastena ~ we plan to move down the Charlotte area in the fall (most of my family has already transplanted there!) & I know it's an area that has a nice sized population of Western New Yorkers ~ I'm sure they'd do well if they were to perform there!

Being from the GWN, the Hip are Canadian icons and have done well over the years in the US in big markets at smaller venues and tend to go back over and over to the places they have been successful in. They will play 3 nights at a bar in NYC or Boston (say a 1000 seaters) and then come home and sell out the Air Canada Centre 3 nights in a row??? They usually do a summer tour of some sort doing the festivals up here and will get to the border towns. The chances of them heading to the southern states is poor methinks. They do have a big Euro following and you will often see them at the festivals over there in the summer months. Stay tuned they should be making plans soon!!!

I emailed their site and got a really quick reply:

Gord Downie is touring for a while with his new album, so the Hip won't be touring until after that. That's all the information that I have at the moment.

All I could find out there was this:

Friday 02 May 2014
Gord Downie
The Sadies, Doug Paisley, and Gord Downie & The Sadies
The Bowery Ballroom, New York, NY, US

Saturday 03 May 2014
Gord Downie and The Sadies
Doug Paisley
The Sinclair, Cambridge, MA, US

Saturday 10 May 2014
Gord Downie
The Sadies
Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL, US

Sunday 11 May 2014
Gord Downie
The Sadies and Doug Paisley
Magic Stick, Detroit, MI, US

Oh, it's a band. I thought this was going to be about the guy in the turtleneck sweater that I got stuck behind at the local coffee shop last week: "I'll have a vegan decaf mocha latte espresso with almond flavored soy milk and organic nutmeg sprinkled - SPRINKLED - NOT SHAKEN - over non dairy whipped cream." It took the counter girls 5 minutes to get his order straight as the line built up behind me!

As noted they are touring next spring but tcket prices (135 for floors and side stage) are shooting above their weight class (IMO) due to lack of new material and concert experience. I'm calling it the fill up your RRSP space tour. Pearl Jam charges 80 for floors.

Not sure they have even come close to selling out a show in western Canada which they would have done easily 15 years ago.

Here in Victoria (where you are searched for cigarettes before entering arena for hockey games) I will not be seeing the hip but may head over to Van last minute.

Love the band and what they have accomplished over the years (i saw them many many times before they hit) but think their mgmt group led them down the path with lowest seat price around 60 bucks for nose bleeds.

Ken I wouldn't expect any less from you.

You see more live shows in a year than some bands play live shows. Yes I am envious of that and hope that when I get to that point in my life where I have more free time there are still bands playing live.

I agree Toronto will sell out but folks I know that have been following the band for years are all in agreement that costs for seats doesn't equal what you get from the stage. Maybe this tour will get them amped up again.

House of Blues in Cleveland, mostly general admission, with all fees, $59.50.

Pretty sure it is already sold out.

Case of gauging when you can.

Enjoy the shows guys.

Ah yes the greatest Canadian band that know one south of ANY US/CAN border state has heard of. I live in northern NY and they are popular until you get south of Lake Placid.Bout as big as Rush but like a 90's rock sound. My favorite tune would be Grace 2. And that's about it.

That Ottawa Blues fest hasn't had a blues player headline in a while. They should change the name. They have some blues around but all the headliners are not blues.

My buddy in Vermont has a pontoon boat on Lake Champlain. He puts one pontoon on the Canadian side and one on the US side and calls it The Tragically Hip Line. Cross the line and no one has a clue who you are.

Love that boat. Keg of beer and full size BBQ. Who needs to get off?

True enough but there are Jazz and Blues fests all over North America that are the same.

My wife and her brother are HUGE fans. She took me to a New Year's Eve show of theirs at The Chicago House of Blues a few years ago. I really didn't get it but maybe I need to give them another chance.

They are going to see them at the same venue in a few hours. She's not the best concert reviewer but I will ask her what she thought of the show and will post it tomorrow.

I know of them and I've heard their music. I find the band and their music to be highly overrated, and I'd rather see other bands which I have done many other times.

So this is a paraphrased version of my wife's review of the Hip show Wednesday at The Chicago House of Blues:

She said it was really good (as I knew she would say). They played for about two hours. A lot of stuff from their latest release. While not a fan, I listened to some of it last night and it was pretty good.

Their opener is apparently some DJ guy they know from Canada. All he did was the DJ thing scratching vinyl. Kind of odd I guess but the time I saw them a Rabbi opened for them and danced on top of the speakers, so....

There was a three song encore.

LMAO!

At least he wasn't juggling while riding a unicycle on a high wire.

The Hip has put together some summer festivals where they have some bizarre acts so not much is a surprise with them.
