I have not received my copy yet, but this web site that analyzes sound quality and dynamic range shows very poor scores:

http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/list?artist=allman+brothers&album=

What are you hearing? Is it harsh and hard on the ears as the analysis suggests?

I have no idea what all that technical auditory crap means, but what I hear...taken from live audio, in particular...couldn't be improved upon. Warren killed it, in my opinion. I think the mix is perfect...you can even distinguish b/t Butch and Jaimoe. You got The Wood rumblin' his ass off busily between drums...GA's organ sweepin' around...but what I'm enjoying the most is the crystal-clear rhythm/riffy fills behind the lead guitar...be it Warren or Dickey. Your mileage may vary. I freakin' LOVE this release. Nobody Knows is worth the price of admission alone.

A crisp and bright SBD and very enjoyable show. You will be glad you have this show.

I've only played it through once but I sure don't have any problem with the sound, in fact I think it's great.

I've listened to the sound evolve over the last year and a half; Warren did an amazing job, and I would be hard-pressed to find any fault with the sound, let alone the performances.

I don't know what any of those tech categories are but whatever they are you would have to have super-human hyper-nova audio sensory per perception to say this is a "bad" recording. Good grief.

Sound board? No. This is FAR better then any sound board.

Take your issues with the mix but this is a multi-track live recording by a major label. If it doesn't have a certain amount of nerdbytes so be it but to human ears the recording is top notch.

Exactly. This is a very good, very welcome recording. I would definitely put it up there with 2nd Set in terms of quality and being representative of the band at that time. I am soooo glad to have this one!

The same site gives even worse reviews for the sound quality of not only the Archives, but the Fillmore East Deluxe release.

Some people have issues with the Fillmore Deluxe package, but if the sound on Play All Night is better than that, that should do.

First I thought Revival on Play All Night was a much better version than the one on Evening With.
Then I heard they were the same version but didn't believe it.
Then I made a close comparison. They are the same but the new one sounds much better to my ears. And don't forget who was responsible for the sound on Evening With.
Warren did a Fantastic job on this. No doubt.

I didn't realize it was the same version. Any other repeats on Play All Night from 1st Set or 2nd set?

Making mathematics out of the music is missing the point for those who listen with ears, hearts and minds.

"Revival" was indeed the only repeat.

das, I'm completely with ya. Just so glad it's being released at all, so that 10 or 20 years from now, I can put something on, and remember how I used to, feel sometimes.... When I got to see that era blast it out from the stage in those daze. I never thought I'd be able to witness the Allman brothers, and then 89-90 and beyond was just incredible. A true rebirth, again!

And to be able to get a peek at the archival sounds is always appreciated. There is way too little Duane available. For some tool to say that the quality diminishes the value doesn't quitte understand the commodity.

We've got to enjoy the live offerings we receive, however few they may seem when we want mo mo mo...

EapfTheTapers, and Bands that allow live recording and trading of their shows, regardless of the medium. Us freaked in the trenches cherish the warts and all, let the music free!
