I swore off Rock and Roll books, they all let me down for various reasons, Graham Nash's being the one I swore would be the last. But, nooooooooooo, I was weak and got sucked right back in. Picked it up Saturday morning, intending to just read a few pages before chores, and I finished it last night (Sunday). I was completely miserable on the last 20 pages as I knew the book was ending. Great job of editing and keeping it completely sinuous and engaging the whole way thru. I figured after the Duane years it will tail-off into drivel, but it never did. Great, great job.

And needless to say I got NOTHING done all weekend. The family is pissed off.

I also have been avoiding musician books, they typically disappoint, but Alan Paul did a great job of storytelling, even though it was not his "voice". Really well done!

I suggest you get his other book, Big in China.

You won't get any work done that weekend either.

I just bought that one as well, on the kindle. My sister also lived in China for a while, I have to see if they overlapped at all.

After all the posts on her about the book I decided not to wait for the hard cover to come in the mail and bought the Kindle edition - I'm a long term devotee of instant gratification Tons of interesting info and some surprising complimentary comments on Gregg from Dickey and vice-versa. I think they knew the band was special with both of them but their personalities and bad habits won out. It's a shame. They obviously held each other in high musical esteem.

Also, the nineties are very well covered and that's where I started because I've heard all the Duane stories already and his era is widely covered in other publications. I found it amusing that during one of Dickey's drunken periods in the 90's he was at the bar telling Gregg that they were the band and they should ditch everybody and go on tour.

So, yeah, damn you Alan Paul, I've got this book on my kindle app and I'm reading it at work and can't stop. Sonofab!tch.

Will you be at Dickey's show at Penn's Peak in March?

Just got my copy at the Big House on Friday. By the way, they have finished Berry and Linda's room. They also did Brittany's room and have her yellow dress from the back of Brothers and Sisters. Funny how the little things like that stay with me the most. And of course, I'm always thrilled to see the little plastic police car that was omnipresent on the amps at those early Mule gigs.

Great book. I'm not finished yet, but am loving every moment of it. I like the format of letting the people who were there tell the story. I also like the little moments in the book where the stories don't match up due to some fuzzy memories or creative reconstruction of the past.

I'm just past the making of Brothers & Sisters and it's a battle between Les Dudek and Butch to see who comes across worse in their own quotes through out the book.

excellent read Alan ! Great pictures , great editing and a ton of stuff I never knew about the band . Some of it hilarious and much of it tragic and rough to read for those of us who love the band. Any more local signings? I live in Bergen County.

My copy arrived in the mail Monday and I finished it Wednesday.

If you don't already have a copy in hand, or on order, I recommend you make plans to get one.

This is not just the story of the Allman Brothers it is the members of the Allman Brothers, their families, friends and associates telling you the story.

Thanks Alan for putting this together and bringing me closer to the band I've loved since my friend dropped the needle on Idlewild South one afternoon in 1970.
