This is more like it...hang it up, will never be able to replace Warren/Derek...

Sounds like it's over.

Well I hope they can make it out west for a few gigs this summer or in the fall. I'd sure like to take my boy to an ABB gig before the final curtain comes down.

Not a surprise. They have been talking about the Allman Brothers to end touring and just headlining regional festivals (Wanee, Peach, etc) for years. I imagine there will still cross paths and maybe, as Gregg says, a quick reunion here and there, but this looks like it. Expect Cirque du Soleil at the Beacon in March 2015. Glad I've got my Beacon and Wanee tickets.

I took my oldest son in 2011 (he was just turning 11 at the time). Definitely taking him and his younger brother (turning 11 this Spring) this year if they are within a couple hours of Atlanta.

Somewhat sad, but good to end on a high note. Still can't believe they didn't record a follow up to Hittin the Note. That's my only small regret. Otherwise, what more could I ask for? I didn't think I'd get any chance to experience what I have since 1990.

Well this can't be because Mike Miz has an audition and is sitting in at the Beacon and I know this to be true because after all I read it on the internet.

In all seriousness, Bravo, go out on a high note and it is true, enough is enough.

Maybe true but I will wait for an official statement from a reliable source.

If it's true, it's the right decision, I think.

"Get together every five years"?! You're not 30 any more, Gregg!

Reunion? I can see them giving up on the "long" Beacon run. I certainly think a once a year gig at Wanee is feasible.

Wish they'd take the time to do one more release?

Wish they'd release an all instumentals album!

After 2014, I'll take whatever I can get. 45 years is a good, long run for ANY band, but for this band, it truly has been a miracle, first with the devastating losses of Duane and Berry, all the personnel changes, and one comeback after another. The music is timeless, and we can all hang on to that.

I'd love to see WaneeFest continue, but not without The Allman Brothers Band. Rumor is there will be summer and fall tours. Let's hope they cover more ground than just the east coast. I'm rooting for my west coast friends to get some love this year.

I would not be surprised to see them do a resort show like Further just did at some point. maybe next year or the year after.

It's sad and not surprising, and maybe they sort of stumbled into this backward, but it's the right decision. If they want to get together and do a special gig at Wanee or the Peach Festival or somewhere else, ideally with Warren and Derek - assuming those festivals stay active, TTB and the Mule would probably be there most years - then that'll be an option. If not, they can go out on a high note. It wouldn't have made sense for them to try to play 30 or 40 shows a year for a couple more years with other guitarists. I don't think it would have felt right and I doubt they could have lived up to their own standards. Now all the fans who were thinking about seeing them this year will more or less know where things stand and can make their ticket-buying decisions accordingly.

I'm glad he finally cleared the air, it's just a shame that he took so long to do so. Other than that, it's for the best, and shows respect for the lineup they had.

Lightning wasn't going to strike a fifth time; Duane & Berry, Dickey & Chuck, Dickey & Warren, Warren and Derek; the all-time great lineups for the band, imo. Jack Pearson, Jimmy Herring and many others contributed great music to the band's history, but there's no doubt a few lineups transcended excellence and raised it to a new level, and to think it could happen a fifth time...that's asking too much, imo.

Congrats to the band for going out on top.

If it is the creative spark Gregg needs and new writing and songs come from it, this will be a really good thing. I would like to see Gregg go more in the blues and R&B direction and this is actually hopeful to me. At this point the ABB has said all it needs, hard to top all they have done from 69 on... and new guitarists at this late stage would seem commercial and forced. Mojo would not be there... so a focus on GAF for Mr Allman is better news than a reinvented Frankenband.

Got to say im seeing a theme here.
Presale tickets go onsale for the first 10 shows, a few days before the public sale Warren and DT announce their departure.
Presale tickets go onsale for the final 4 shows, a few days before the public sale Gregg announces this is the end.

Awful news overall, but I feel like both were announced very strategically.

Gregg Allman says that The Allman Brothers Band will stop touring at the end of 2014..."

But they will keep recording, right?

In all seriousness, I'd rather see them go out in some semblance of a blaze of glory than re-uniting to play various cheese-fests every so often, only to be ridiculed by fans of McLemore and Lewis or something.

Their canon of music and accomplishments in musical history is nothing short of phenomenal. I don't think that there is a band or musical act - past, present or likely future that will ever hold a candle to the level of musicianship and virtuosity that the Allman Brother's Band has laid down.

45 years of intense live performances! Let's see any act attempt to top that!

Thanks for the great music over the years, I was lucky enough to see them fortysomething times. To me, the greatest live band ever and I never got to see the best version of the Allman Brothers Band. Thanks again.
