never had this one on cd and i love that era of the ABB. luckily was out and about and the FYE at the mall had a used copy for just $5.00. i know its hard to get on cd and pretty pricey. amazing when i opened it i would say it was just under like new condition with just a handful of minor marks on the cd

One of my all time favorite ABB studio releases and for me "Nobody Knows" is my all time favorite studio track on an ABB release.

Very cool find!

Why this incredible album is out of print is a total mystery to me.

$5.00 for a near mint copy is a find indeed and I'm happy for you....

I was finally able to obtain a used copy of this one after looking for it forever. Mine is a bit more scuffed up than I would like (I"m a bit picky about used discs) but it does play fine so I was thrilled to finally have it in my collection.

Now that you mentioned it, it has been a while since I played it so if you'll excuse me for a sec...

There are plenty of used copies out on Amazon for 6 or 7 dollars.

You can even pick up a new copy on there for around 8 + shipping.

It's a great record!

a. The bulk of the record buying public is under 30 years old.
b. One of their biggest faves is a 19 year old punk who is so deep that he throws eggs at his neighbor from his $30 million dollar home.

Now you know why Shades of Two Worlds is out of print.

I do appreciate the suggestion but I just went there hoping for a new copy and right now...the cheapest new copy asking price is $32.00 from a Marketplace seller with a 52% positive rating! I have heard too many bad Amazon Marketplace stories to even consider that one

Highest is currently $59.94 but at least they have a 99% positive rating...

If you saw one there recently for around $8.00, I'm betting it got grabbed pretty quickly.

LOL! I think I know the punk you're referring to Rob...

What gets me is the fact that Seven Turns and Where It All Begins are both still in print...so why not Shades ?

An album currently on my Amazon wish list is Miami by the Tommy Bolin version of the James Gang , an album that I would think has fewer potential buyers at this point, and it is still in print.

But then, if you are savy enough to know Tommy Bolin was in the band maybe ...

i was lucky i even stopped and looked the ABB section as i rarely do since i own almost everything they've released. what made me stop and look? i saw a used copy of BROTHERS OF THE ROAD on cd which i know is pretty rare. i hate that album though but i said to myself lets see is anything else was traded in that i am missing.

as far as why seven turns and where it all begins being in print and shades being out of print. my theory. where it all begins has being certified gold so that should be in print. seven turns was considered the bands comeback album and contained a #1 rock hit with "good clean fun" plus the title track. i still see the videos for these 2 songs all the time on vh1 classic. shades was the lowest charting studio album of the bands 90's output, contained no hit singles and i haven't even seen a video on vh1 classic for a song from that release ever.

Here is where I noticed Shades of Two Worlds was available much cheaper on Amazon.

You can get it new with free shipping for $16.18, or new in the marketplace for as low as $8.70 + 3.99 shipping, but it'll take a week or so to get to the states since it's in the UK.

I haven't had too many problems from Amazon Marketplace, but I don't know if I have ever ordered from someone with under a 96% rating.

I'll probably get slammed for this but i think 1990-1995 was the peak for the ABB. gregg's and dickey's voices were at the peak of their power. dickey was at his peak as a songwriter especially working with warren. i thought the guitar interplay between dickey and warren was the best the ABB ever had because dickey and warren had been working together since 1987, remember dickey and duane only had about 3 years together to get a chemistry before duane passed.

Crazy that Shades is out of print. It is available on Spotify and probably other streaming services as well.

I think it has some filler but the good stuff is really peak.

"Nobody Knows" caused some real tension between Gregg and Dickey, which I never knew before reporting out the book.

I can't bring myself to say that 90-95 was peak ABB, because of what Duane and Berry did... but it is damn, damn good and it is certainly the reason I got as hooked as I did... And recent viewings of the upcoming Live at Great Woods and repeated listening to Play all Night (Disc 1 is blasting right now) have only confirmed that.

Ah! I was looking at the domestic version and this is the import.

Thank you for the clarification...

Not "slammed"...but, Imho, nothing beats the Duane years.

duane was the best guitar player the band ever had. the stuff with the original lineup is classic. i just think the entire band was clicking more from 1990-1995 and dickey was writing or cowriting almost entire albums worth of great tunes. in the 70's when betts took over the song writing it seemed like we got 2 great songs and some subpar stuff

I am on board with this. 1989-1997 with Warren & Woody is my favorite. The band was powerful. Several of my favorite ABB songs are from this era: True Gravity, Gambler's Roll, Seven Turns, End Of The Line, Nobody Knows, Kind Of Bird, Back Where It All Begins, All Night Train, Sailin' 'cross The Devil's Sea, Soulshine... And I love their versions of the classics from Statesboro Blues to Dreams to In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed. Amazing music, telepathic interplay, rich tones; it's all there. And it's beautiful.

give us a bit of a review of PLAY ALL NIGHT if you can. was this when they arranged some songs and did them acoustic or was that the next tour?

btw betts usually sings 2 songs per album starting with brothers and sisters. any reason he only sings lead on 1 song on Shades? imo "midnight man" sounds lyrically like a tune betts should have done lead and he wrote it. if not that song then he should have done "come on in my kitchen" which i think he did live but not on the album. am i correct betts sang that one live?

I'm on board too for the 89-97 Warren and Woody version. Listen to the summer tour and Beacon shows from 97 . The playing and jamming was never better than at that time. The energy and sparks where flying on all 7 cylinders. Shades is my favorite by all means.

What a good album . To echo everyone else , Nobody Knows is a powerhouse . Kind Of Bird is strong too . Woody , Dickey , and Haynes were on fire then .

It's only $32 if you buy "new", other copies are as low as $4.

It's only the CD that is out of print, you can download the album via itunes or amazon:

This was the era where I became a head over heals ABB fan. They rose from the dead again to hit the note at the highest level and added some amazing new-at-the-time (and old blues) songs to the great ABB cannon (including End of the Line, Get On With Your Life, Kind of Bird, Nobody Knows, and Come on In My Kitchen). I have a Warren & Jaimoe autographed copy of this CD.
