What a wonderful evening last night at the Bama Theatre, a homecoming show of sorts for Chuck.

Randall and band (Davis Causey on guitar, Michael Steele on bass, and Gerry Hanson on drums) took the stage right at 7:30 for a 45 minute opening set. He played songs from his first solo album in the mid 70's through his latest release from 2013, shifting back and forth between electric piano/organ and sax.

I had never seen Causey before.....while he looks more like a distinguished grandfather as opposed to a rock star, he was full of very tasty and restrained guitar licks. And bassist Steele - does anyone know if he and Jack Pearson are pals? When Jack played a house concert party last year, he brought a couple of friends w him, one of whom really looked like Steele.

After a brief 15 minute break, Chuck came out w Randall and all the above musicians. His 1:45 set was also a "career of Chuck Leavell" review. He did mention/ask "how many of you used to watch the Misfits" back in the day - and got a healthy response from the (old....or older) crowd. Among other songs, he played 3-4 tunes that he described as "my earliest influences" and a 4 songs Stones mini-set - Start Me Up, Honky Tonk Woman, Dead Flowers and It's Only Rock and Roll, before rolling out Southbound and Jessica. Then a 2 minute break followed by a Jumpin Jack Flash encore that had my three teenage children (by far the youngest people in the theatre) laughing at the "old white people" dancing and partying like......"old white people."

Seriously though, I do think the kids were at least somewhat appreciative of the fine musicians onstage. I had played up the Allmans/Stones/Clapton/Panic history of Chuck and Randall....I'd like to think as times go on they will be more and more grateful they went with me last night.

Now, a great weekend continues.........as long as the Crimson Tide does their part tonight vs the LSU Corndogs!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds great, thanks for the report. Really enjoyed seeing Chuck and Randall together in Woodstock GA back in '08, I think it was. Talented guys that go well together.
