Guess the rumors were true. Wonder if he'll join the band. Sure would be quite the addition to an already awesome band. |

I dont think there is anything such thing called" true country music" . It's defintely not what has been spewing out of that genre for MANY years now. ____________________ https://youtu.be/xKtPlcugqF0

Great performance. Personally, I think Chris Fryar is a better drummist than Grohl. ____________________ Music is love, and love is music, if you know what I mean.

I erally didn't enjoy ZBB at last year's Peach Fest, but I liked this a lot. Going to be very interesting to see what's next here.

Dave Grohl is apparently producing the ZBB's next album. I wonder if Oteil is playing on it? |

Yes, Oteil is playing on the next ZBB album. And there are indications he will be touring with them. Not sure if this means he is officially "joining" the ZBB or not. ____________________ Tim L. |

Since the ZBB tour a lot, I wonder what that means for Oteil's future in the ABB. I know the ABB has scaled back their touring, but next year is supposed to be a big year for the band. |

How much does the ZBB tour compared to the TTB? The reason they gave for Oteil's departure from that band was that he was on the road too much and was ready to start a family. ____________________

Loved the performance!! And, music has to evolve in order to survive. It doesn't sound the same forever. Country and all other forms of music evolve over time. |

I'm sure all those bluegrass tunes he played in ARU were good practice for this gig
It really makes sense. Oteil is from Alabama, after all, and his bluegrass/country vocabulary is just as extensive as his blues, rock and funk palette. Maybe he just wanted a musical change of pace.
Whether you like The Zac Brown Band or not, they are one of the hardest-working groups in all of music. If Oteil does end up taking this gig, I think we can safely assume that "too much time on the road" was not the entire answer to him leaving TTB. |

I think a potential raise, and a substantially higher touring budget might make going on the road w ZBB not quite the grind that the TTB was.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I've tried to make this point here before to no avail.
Ironically the musicians themselves are making it for us.
I'd surely enjoy today's Country to ANYTHING that is called pop music today. |

Say whatever you want, but this is NOT country music. Not bad music, but nothing about it (besides maybe the fiddle???) is country. It is no more country than Dave Matthews Band. |

A year ++ off the road with the TTB and also the thought of high end touring/travel (and pay) may seem more doable to Oteil. Starting a family and the grind of the road could very well have been the reasons at that time for leaving the TTB in 2012.
I'm just hoping that Oteil remains with the ABB. There is nothing stating that he isn't. The ABB commitment is a well paying one with probably 3 months commitment for 2014 (and is pretty cool one with some high profile shows/collaborations like Clapton), but I can't be the first one to have this thought cross his mind. ____________________ Tim L. |

It could be as simple as what Tim says, that Oteil wanted a break, took a year off, and that's what he needed.
Also, touring with ZBB would be more similar to touring with the ABB than the TTB, or even exceeding the ABB in terms of lifestyle and amenities. Cramming 12-14 people on 2 buses as the TTB tours could get grueling after awhile.
There's a good video somewhere of an interview with Derek where he was talking about the differences in touring with his own band, the ABB, and EC's band. Something to the effect of EconoLodge, Hilton, and Four Seasons.
Besides, ZBB might just be something different to do as an interim gig for a little while. I can't imagine Oteil passing on future ABB gigs, as the ABB touring has gotten even easier with multi-night stops and quick short legs that only last a dozen shows each. ____________________

I would agree that the Allmans don't really require that much of Oteil's time any more, and hopefully he can do both.
I'm not a big Zac Brown fan, but I am a big Oteil Burbridge fan, and I'm happy he is getting the attention he deserves. I saw him play some of the best bass I've ever heard in front of 40 people for next to no money back in the ARU days. He has paid all of his dues and richly deserves such a big break.
First Jimmy gets a big gig with Panic, and now this. It makes me feel like all us ARU freaks back in the day were on to something Maybe those guys were actually as good as we thought they were! |

Not for nothing but Oteil updated his web site tour dates and took off the dates he had originally scheduled for jam cruise. What did he not do? That is add Zac Brown band dates for the 17 shows ZBB has coming up starting next week. So it seems people are running with something here with scant information to support the idea that Otel is now a full time meber of the ZBB. Zac's bassist is now playing guitar and other instruments with them and they have been using a different bassist named Terry Miller for awhile now. Not saying I have any knowledge of what the upcoming plans are but just that people are running with info when they really have none. |

I surely didn't write that I knew that Oteil has become a full time member of the ZBB. I did read "there are indications" and "if he decides" "would be" and "might just be an interim gig" as relates to Oteil touring with the ZBB in 2014. Not sure the harsh condemnation is warranted. ____________________ Tim L. |
