Stumbled across this Instant Live that I kind of forgot about. Warren couldn't make the date. Jackie P fillied in with help from Ron Halloway. Interesting texture to some of the jam/trades sections. Oteil kicked it up as well. Great setlist x of a long drumz on LMBAH.

Was at that show. It was the first time I ever saw Jack. Saw the same line-up the next night in Detroit.

What a great weekend that was. I flew in from Detroit and my buddy flew in from Philly. We went to see the Cubs and Cards play that afternoon (Cubbies lost) and then to the show at Rosemont that night. Then I flew back to Detroit on Sunday morning and caught the show at Pine Knob with my wife. I'll have to play both of those IL's this weekend. Thanks for the reminder.

An excellent show - Dimples smokes! Wish more of that run of shows with Jack were available as IL's - for some reason only a couple of them are.

I've got probably 50 instant lives at home, but have only added a handful to my itunes, and they tend to be the "unusual" shows. This one w Jack is one.

I recall being a bit shocked, as I'm sure some folks on-stage were, when Gregg announces "Mr. Warren Haynes can't be with us, he's has some family problems, er....family things."

I don't have this one, but I do have the Labatt Center show from the 17th. It's a good show- different and really interesting. The band was really hot around that time and these shows had Jack and a bunch of Ron Holloway, too.

I was at the Montage Mountain show where Warren came back but Jack was still there so on a bunch of tunes it was all three guitarists. Man it was good. Simply amazing. One Way Out encore was a slide guitar master class showcasing nearly all possible styles.

To be clear, I wasn't there, I meant shocked from the point of "damn Gregg, how about 'Warren Haynes can't be here, he's got some personal business to take care of, or he's under the weather,'" or something........

I've been trying to get this one for years as we were at the show. Hittin the Note has been out for some time. I remember when the lights came on (after moe. opened) thinking, "well this should get interesting"

This one is in the constant rotation. One of my favorites. I like the one where Warren comes back and Jack sits in for a handful of songs as well.

Does anyone know why Warren missed that handful of shows?

I was at this show too and I kinda agree with the statements about Jack being a favorite behind the original line up. This was the first time I'd ever seen him play and I was just completely floored....the guy is a BEAST, and just about the most tasteful player I've ever seen.

It was reported/rumored/whatevered that he had a transient ischemic attack (TIA), which is sort of a small stroke caused by a temporary blockage in a blood vessel. As far as I know, nothing like that has happened since then. It seems like he's taking better care of himself these days.

I haven't even heard this one in a while, but I will still vouch for the premise in the thread title

This show is everything you want in a modern-era ABB show. The fact that Jack was able to sit in at this run of shows on such short notice and play the way he did is the ultimate tribute to him as a musician. It's a shame there aren't Instant Lives from Jack's time in the band, but these few shows with him from 2005 are great.

2005 was probably the best year the ABB had as a live band since Dickey left, except maybe the 40th anniversary year of 2009. Some say 5/17/05, about 3 months before this one, was the best show the ABB has played since the original band. That one isn't available on CD, but 7/24/05 from Saratoga Springs is way up there on my list. The whole year is full of great shows.

Take a band in peak form, add a great musician who knows their repertoire inside and out, throw in some novelty factor because you haven't played with Jack in a while, and you get one of the best shows of the last decade.

I'd have to agree that '05 was their best year. There is a legendary moment from 3/19/05 at the Beacon during Liz Reed during Derek's solo. The band's peak was insane, and it may be Derek's best solo ever. I have a boot of of it at decent quality. I'd be happy to put up a youtube link of it when I get some free time. I can recall this forum burning up the day after about how phenomenal the band was that night.

Glad to see that I'm not alone.
The 3.21.05 AUD from the Beacon - the night before the Big House Benefit, rarely leaves my rotation. Incredible third set with Chuck. Up there with 3.26.09, 3.19.04, Clapton shows, Red Rocks in the Rain, Chastain 10/08 (mushroomed shaped pic from the Ector pre-show gathering) and a few other exceptionally special moments.
Good times.

Holy crap!! I figured a family member had died or something. I never imagined it was something to do with his own health.

Was Holloway already playing a string of shows with them or was he called in when Jack was?

The run of shows from Sept 04, starting with Chicago 9.1.04 through 2005 were really hot. Was at the 3.19.05 show - the Liz Reed Derek solo might be the best ABB moment ever witnessed.

I expect he was just there to help fill in for Warren.

I've never heard 3/19/05 but I'm very curious now.

I will post the 3/19/05 link asap....also worth noting was that Gregg did "Oncoming Traffic" solo on keyboard this night, a rare gem.
