I was delighted to see Derek & Susan's names on the cover of the Nov issue of GP. Derek is always a great interview, and this one was no exception.

However, the real deal is that this issue does an in-depth lesson on a bunch of Tommy Bolin's licks from the Billy Cobham "Spectrum" album, and that is where it is at.

In the meantime, if you did not snag the recent Bolin disc "Whirlwind," get it. The 26-minute version of "Marching Powder" is a fine journey.

-- NICE
Is there any one James Gang record w/Tommy on it, that people go to than another -- never even knew he played w/the JG until it was posted here -- it's why I dig this website -- music -- IIRC Tommy was on 2 JG records?

Spectrum is one of the great albums of any genre, much less the new sound it defined at the time...

James Gang "Bang" is the one I like better. It has "Alexis" on it which is a classic Tommy ballad and "Standing In The Rain" is a great album opener. But his songs and influence are all over both "Bang" and "Miami" they are both pretty cheap and easy to find. bang is only $7.75 for a CD on Amazon and Miami is $10.55. And they give you the mp3 with each of these CDs.
