I agree. I probably would have pre-ordered elsewhere if I had known it wasn't going to be a CD as promised.

The download just isn't the same for me.

The bonus for By A Thread was a download too so i expected as much, but I would definitely prefer a hard copy disc.

Georgia Bootleg Box and the last Christmas Jam release's bonus was a CD, so I was hoping that they were going back to the physical product.

I'm hoping they just ran out of bonus cds and are now offering a bonus download .

I would just like to know what exactly the bonus download is going to consist of.
I would think by now they would know what they are going to offer.
Why keep it a mystery?

Well this is disappointing news. I'd rather not have to do this but the Mule CD is the CD. That's basically what we paid for, right? The bonus is a bonus. Wouldn't we buy the Mule CD anyway?

I would buy it anyway, but had I known the bonus would be a download vs an actual CD, I could have bought it much cheaper than directly from them.

Good point. Why pay the postage if you can just buy it at the store? Sometimes pre orders are not all they are cracked up to be.

I would have probably picked it up at best buy (where they have a special edition with a shirt), but the bonus disc pulled me into buying it from the band's store. The order is already made now, no need to cancel it.

It is what it is, I'm 100% positive that the download will be great music, I just haven't fully moved into the mp3 age.

Just bought the new NMAS cd, World Boogie is Coming.....

It came with a code for you to download - you got the entire album, 5 bonus songs, and 4 videos.......in a zip file........... I didn't know that until I opened the cd.........

That was a pretty cool treat. Great way to handle the bonus material too and encourage people to buy the CD. It's a strong album too. I'm liking it a lot.

For me neither. Glad i haven't pre-ordered from the Musictoday Mule store because a real live cd would have been the only good reason for me to pre-order. Maybe i'm old fashioned but i was already dissapointed when other recent bonus discs came in a plain paper CD/DVD sleeve instead of a cardboard sleeve with cover art. Bonus downloads are not my cup of tea. I haven't pre-ordered the CD yet (will buy it eventually) but i have pre-ordered the 4LP boxset from Amazon.

from mule.net http://mule.shop.musictoday.com/Dept.aspx?cp=268_62030
Shout! – Gov’t Mule’s first studio album in four years – will feature 11 tracks recorded by the band in Los Angeles and Stamford, CT plus a bonus album download featuring an all-star lineup of vocalists interpreting The Mule’s new songs. Special guests Elvis Costello, Ben Harper, Dr. John, Toots Hibbert, Glenn Hughes, Jim James, Myles Kennedy, Dave Matthews, Grace Potter, Vintage Trouble’s Ty Taylor and Steve Winwood appear on the bonus download of Shout! The double album – which marks Gov’t Mule’s Blue Note Records debut – will be released on September 24.
All Pre-orders will come with an exclusive download of bonus live Mule.

from amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/Shout-Govt-Mule/dp/B00DB2JQ7W/ref=sr_1_1?s=music& ie=UTF8&qid=1379013147&sr=1-1&keywords=govt+mule
Audio CD (September 24, 2013)
Original Release Date: 2013
Number of Discs: 2
Label: Blue Note (Universal)

I thought the preorder bonus was what was being referred to here. When I checked out Mule's website it appears that it's down to a single cd with the guest vocalists appearing on a "bonus album download" as well as the preorder bonus (exclusive download). Funny how it is still referred to as a "double album".
Amazon still lists it as 2 discs.

On the actual order page for the CD it mentions "bonus album download featuring an allstar lineup" at the top of the page, but "two disc collection" down at the bottom under details. Whoever edited the page really screwed that up.

Here is my conformation email:

Your products will ship on or about 9/20/2013. Please refer to the help section of the store for the time in transit that corresponds to your chosen shipping method. The nature of pre-order sales prohibits order modifications and cancellations. All pre-order sales are final.

If you ordered Express delivery on your order, you will receive your package on the release date. If you did not order express delivery, please refer to the help section of the store for the time in transit that corresponds to your chosen shipping method.

SKU Product Name
GMCD24 Gov't Mule's Shout! CD
GMCD25 Gov't Mule Shout! Bonus CD

For $23.47 I better get two CDs. That's why I pre ordered. Without the second CD I would not have ordered it. I figured it was worth it. Time will tell...

I am pretty sure you will be getting 2 CD (the regular Mule disc and the guest disc), however the bonus material that was free with the pre-order may or may not be a download.

I think a lot of us did the pre-order through Mule's music today page because it was the only place we were getting a bonus CD, which is now being promoted as a bonus download.

shout pre order bogus!I just received an e-mail confirmation for my full refund of $23.25 from music today.I called the 877-687-4277 number yesterday and explained to them that i did not appreciate their bait and switch tactics for the bonus cd.The only reason i ordered from them was to get the bonus disc, not a download. They were very receptive to my beef.I would rather buy from Amazon for $11.88 and be done with it.If you feel the same way, give it a try.

I called them just a few minutes ago and brought up the change on the website. The first rep I talked to was rude and said "your order says it's a CD, so it will be a CD". I then asked him if he could guarantee it would be a CD and he asked me if I didn't hear him the first time. I pointed out that, I don't think you understand what I am asking and the website changed from bonus CD to bonus download and he gave me the "your order says CD". I finally said raising my voice a little "I'm just asking for a little customer service here, can you say with 100% certainty that something hasn't changed about this release" and that's when he just hung up.

So I called back and talked to another rep, who asked her supervisor, and yes they have all been changed to a download. They couldn't get CD's pressed in enough time. Apparently everyone who did the pre-order will be getting an email soon discussing the change to the order.

I called Music Today yesterday and cancelled my order. Before I could even tell the customer service rep why, she said "Oh, because you don't get the bonus disc. The record company didn't have time to press it". This morning I get an email from Gov't Mule saying there is still time to pre order and get two discs.

Wires are crossed somewhere.

Originally music today offered a 2 disc set, one with the Mule and the second disc with interpretations from special guests plus a bonus disc with live Mule tracks. So it should have been 3 discs in total. Now it sounds like you get 1 disc of Mule and 2 downloads which use to be individual discs.Extremely lame and poorly handled by music today.Amazon is listing a 2 disc set for pre-order for $11.88.music today can go scratch it from now on!Good Luck with your Shout purchase everyone.

Shout from every place you get it from is a 2 disc set.

I'm fairly certain the only thing that has changed with the Musictoday pre-order is that the bonus live disc is now a download instead of a CD. You will still get your regular 2 CD version of Shout from them, just the bonus disc for pre-ordering in through them is now a download instead of a CD.

They handled this pretty poorly.
