For me I will go the Rock route and not include Jazz musicians as i think that would be impossible for me to choose.

Bass - Jack Cassidy, Jack Bruce

Drums - Keith Moon, Ginger Baker

Keys - Steve Winwood, Nicky Hopkins

Lead Guitar - Duane Allman, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Derek Trucks ( This is tough )

Rythm Guitar - Keith Richards, Pete Townsend

Vocals - Robert Plant, Mick Jagger

I feel bad as I am leaving out many of my favorites, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Mick Taylor, John Entwistle etc. But it's only a game.

I am going to go the living route. Too many great dead artist to choose from. A super group to me is just four guys from different bands getting together to do something special. I would really like to see this happen.

You can put some instruments in the room and they can play them if they want.

I think my supergroup all ready existed in Zeppelin!!!

Them Crooked Vultures was a good mix.

I read this the other day and had to think about.
You can an say all of the obvious greats(that were listed), buthow well would they mesh/be cohesive and play well together? I had to ponder who would fit well.

I like Jerry's picks... two are in mine. I never thought of Vedder. Really not a Pearl Jam person but that line up looks good. All very strong in there positions, progressive, writers, the music they all play is more of a heavy rock in away.

These two for sure

Vocals
Gillan would be great....maybe Cornell.
I would like to see Chris be in more of a tradtional type hard rock band. Soundgarden is good, but they got that grunge /Seattle thing which I never followed all that much.

Drums
Doane Perry-very versatile drummer..power.

ABB is tops in my book because I like thier music. But below is a list of folks that I consider to be very accompished musicians. Perhaps the Real Deal of super groups. I'm not sure I could name a dozen of their songs off the top of my head if I had too. But man they can play.

Jon Anderson
Steve Howe
Rick Wakeman
Chris Squire
Alan White

I like that. I'd be happy with that line-up with just any one guitar player of those you listed. It almost happened at Xmas jam a couple years ago when Herring, Evans, and Sipe joined up along with Bela Fleck and I forget who on keys and bass to put on what was in my opinion the best set of the show.

While fantasy groups can always be debated, the real supergroups for me are:

Jazz supergroup-
Piano- Oscar Peterson
Guitar- Herb Ellis
Bass- Ray Brown
Vocals- Ella Fizgerald
This was the lineup my dad got to see at the Mosque(now the Landmark) in Richmond VA in the early 50s. Just about perfect, I'd say!

Soul supergroup-
Keys- Booker T Jones
Guitar- Steve Cropper
Bass- Donald 'Duck' Dunn
Drums- Al Jackson
Vocals- Otis Redding

As for Rock, I think the two best examples have already been listed by KCJimmy and Barry Smith, but in Yes I'd substitute Bill Bruford for Alan White, and Cream on the night Hendrix sat in.
