Didn't really care for that.
Wish Danny Louis would stick to the keys.

It picked up about midway through the song. I've seen it live and think it has legs. I believe it is the tune Elvis Costello recorded, "Funny Little Tragedy". It has a pop sound that might attract new folks to the Mule...

I liked the tune. Did it blow me away? No, but I thought it was good. I'd say with their extremely varied catalogue and mind blowing musicianship, it' very hard for The Mule to give a proper representation of themselves in a 5 minute time slot. I thought the song was a perfect choice for the limited exposure. More mainstream than the Mule often are, but at the same time it wasn't commercial, either.

+1

Keyboard players should stick to playing keyboards.

I like the tune, pretty "snappy" sounding an uptempo.

As far as Danny... I am sure he is a nice guy and he does have talent, but I would rather have Mule as a three piece. I am not a fan of his keyboard style.
I will quote Canadian Mule, "sounds like duck calls".

It looks like Warren is playing a PRS.

Not sure what to think...

Certainly not what I think of with the Mule. I too love the power trio thing more.

Haven't watched the Conan yet (taped it) but I wanted to add my 2 cnets on Danny Louis. As a long time Mule Years Eve attendee (10 years or so) I am a bug fan of his musicianship including when he occasionally sits in with the ABB and I like what he brings to The Mule. That said, I am also a fan of the classic Power Trio set-up.

I did not like it, but I suppose the 5 min format stymied them.

I thought it was a tasteful little guitar solo and give them credit for trying something different.

When I watched it last night it was 1:30 AM, I'd just gotten home from a show, and was dog tired. Watching it again just now via the clip someone posted here, I think it's a VERY good tune...........it ROCKS and rocks hard! Jorgen is the lead instrument on this tune and his bass is very big and fat. And did anyone else notice, Warren seems to be looking better than I've seen him in years? Looks like he's dropped quite a few pounds, he also looks like he's sleeping better. Very good to see this.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. When possible, I like to get up front at the shows in front of Matt, between Warren and Jorgen and experience the power trio Mule. From that spot I don't hear much from the keyboard. Danny is a technically proficient keyboard player and when he plays piano, hammond, or Fender Rhodes I'm right there with him but Parliament squonky crap I can do without. His rhythm guitar playing is OK, but he should never be taking the leads. Last night he looked like a beginner trying to find notes for a song he never played before. It was a Funny Little Tragedy alright. I understand they will try new things and that's great but this one didn't work. I've heard the album version and I really like the tune but did it no justice last night. I also think Warren phoned in the vocal performance. Jorgen and Matt were their usual thunderous selves and totally badass, but their fearless leader and Danny's stilted lead playing & horrible tone let them down. I was stunned at how much I disliked it. And to Warren, you don't use a Metal Mike PRS to play rhythm guitar on a country tune. Jeez

I think the song is OK. It makes a lot more sense when you hear Elvis Costello doing the vocals. To me it sounds more like an Elvis Costello song than a Gov't Mule song. Sounds like something right out of his mid 80s catalog.

Here is a link to both versions. I like it better with EC on vocals.

Man, I don't get it. If you're on Conan to attract a new audience and sell future concert tickets and CDs, why on Earth would you have anyone else but Warren playing lead guitar?

If I'm a "New" fan and really am only watching because I've heard all the chatter about Warren Haynes, after watching that I would have thought..."This is Gov't Mule?...I thought this guy was supposed to be a great guitarist". I mean, save that for the fans at a "live" show"

Just now starting to dig the Mule, that song did nothing for me.
