Inspired by another thread...

Some of the worst occurred at the Beacon...Southside Johnny was a disaster in 2009. Also, I may be in the minority but to me Bobby Weir is a downer at an ABB show.

Bobby sits at the top of the list for me. Bernie Williams has no business being on stage with the ABB, any more than I do.

Yep. I certainly understand the concept of friendship and loyalty and I'm sure they go way back, but surely, the bros. have other friends who can sing and play much better than Mr. Weir.

Yeah, like Cheryl Crow. Same year Clapton sat in. Wife's first ABB show. Let's just say she is not fond of Cheryl. I still hear about that one. I thought it was pretty good.

Agreed. However, Taylor Hicks (American Idol winner) was the worst ABB guest sit-in ever!

It wouldn't hurt my feelings if all sit-ins ended.
My ticket has always stated:

"The Allman Brothers Band"

not:

"The Allman Brothers Band & Anyone Hanging Around Backstage"

I may be wrong but I don't remember the sit-ins occurring near as often when Dickey was still in the band.

There were lots of sit-ins when Dickey was in the band - and he was directly responsible for Don Johnson and a lot of Duane Betts before Duane was ready for it appearances. I'm very impressed with Duane's playing of late - but his guest shots from the mid-90s were regrettable more often than not.

This one has to be up for one of the worst and I think I see Dickey on stage too!

The great guitarist.....

Stevan Segal

But who is the kid between them?

I do agree that I'm tired of the constant guest sit-ins night after night. If you look at the set lists for the past 10 years, probably around 90-95% of the shows have some sort of guest. It's true that during Dickey Betts era, there were more nights with just the core ABB musicians.

BTW
Although he's a great musician, BELA FLECK once sat in on banjo for "IN MEMORY OF ELIZABETH REED." A banjo in Liz Reed!!! That just didn't work for that kind of song.

Hows about the time that ZAKK WILDE subbed for Dickey back around '93, I believe.

AWFUL CHOICE

Chain & I saw Gavin DeGraw forget the lyrics to Midnight Rider @ Canandaigua in 2005 and they had to end the song abruptly. It was embarrassing. Funny that he later released a cover version of the song.

that takes the cake. I thought he was a wanna be cop, not guitarist. That's a funny picture!

Actually, Bernie Williams is a hell of a guitar player.......dude is really into jazz and fusion. Sure, he was a major league ball player, but to say he has no business is just flat out incorrect.....he can play, man.

Also....that picture of Steven Segal made my entire afternoon!
