Hi Allman Brothers family and friends!

The music of the ABB family of bands has been a huge part of my life and my family's life for years - never more than when my brother Tyler was struggling with cancer and looking for fun and relaxation and something to lift his spirits. Again and again he turned to the Allmans and Derek Trucks and The Band and the Dead and others when he needed to feel better or express something he couldn't say otherwise or just needed to feel in touch with friends.

http://allmanbrothersband.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=XForum&fi le=viewthread&tid=116743

It's been almost three years since Tyler died and since then we've been looking for new and meaningful ways to keep his name alive and share some of what we loved about him. Earlier this year we incorporated a new charitable organization to support music therapy programs. It's called Music Never Stops: the Tyler Seaman Foundation, and we've formed a partnership with Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. Beth Israel has an amazing music therapy department staffed by caring therapists who know how to heal and diagnose patients with music and who are devoted to scientific research. Working with Beth Israel we are creating a new music therapy space called Tyler's Room. The hospital will hire new therapists, buy new instruments and recording equipment and software to expand what they can do. It's going to be a great tribute to Tyler and it will make a real difference in the lives of kids who are going through an incredibly trying time.

Music Never Stops: the Tyler Seaman Foundation (named for the Grateful Dead song, of course) is going to focus on music therapy programs for teenagers because we saw how much strength and inspiration Tyler drew from music. Everybody here knows firsthand how much music can mean to a person. That's especially true when you're young and starting to figure out who you are as an individual. Teens have a very specific set of psychological needs and we want to do what we can to help kids who are having experiences similar to Tyler's- we know how much music meant to him and we know there are other kids out there with the same needs.

So we're turning to you for support. You can read more about us and our plans at http://www.tylersmusicroom.org/ We've just had our kickoff event and we have a lot more planned. We're also on Facebook and we have a Twitter feed at @musicnvrstops. To do it, we need all the help we can. Please share the word and consider making a contribution if you are able. Thanks for reading - y'all a great bunch.

Music Never Stops: the Tyler Seaman Foundation raises money to support programs that use the healing, supportive, expressive and enduring qualities of music to help young people with cancer and other serious illnesses. Our first project is "Tyler's Room," a project at Beth Israel Medical Center's Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine.

yler's Music Room is the first project of Music Never Stops: The Tyler Seaman Foundation. It is a music therapy facility at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, NY. The project will greatly augment the existing music therapy capabilities at Beth Israel, resulting in more access to music therapy for patients and families.

The funding Beth Israel receives from Music Never Stops: the Tyler Seaman Foundation will allow them to hire two new therapists and help more patients, pursue new research, purchase instruments like Tyler's red SG bass, buy concert tickets, get recording equipment so patients can record their own music, and set up iTunes and Spotify accounts so they can make mixes like Tyler did. Tyler's life is a testament to the power of music, and through Tyler's Room, we want to share it with young people like Tyler for years and years to come.

Why music therapy?

Tyler was a music lover who attended countless concerts and jam sessions and never tired of talking about music and listening to new music with family and friends. When he was diagnosed with a clival chordoma at the age of 14, he used the music of Dr. John and the Allman Brothers to stay calm during frightening meetings with doctors and long, sometimes invasive tests. --- helped him keep his energy up during physical therapy. Derek Trucks and Bob Marley lifted his spirits. The Band assisted during his radiation treatments. He became a drummer and found new outlets in pounding the skins, covering favorite songs, and creating new ones with his family. Later in life, when he dealt with the news of a terminal diagnosis, classic jazz helped keep him calm, and his hobby of creating iTunes playlists occupied his time and allowed him to give pieces of himself to friends and family, communicating with them in a new way and creating a new connection that has endured for years.

In addition to its fun and uplifting qualities, research suggests music therapy can have real clinical benefits for people in crisis. Beth Israel is committed to using these in ways that are appropriate to each patient and to spreading the word to other health care providers. Read more at their website. We feel that these services are especially vital for teenage patients because they have needs that are distinct from those of pediatric and adult patients. The teen years can be tough enough on their own even if you're not dealing with an illness or a medical problem affecting someone close to you. Even more than for the rest of us, teenagers can define themselves through music, using it to communicate, and express their feelings when words won't come.

I've been waiting to announce this for a while now! My family's deepest gratitude goes to the TTB for supporting us.

quote:
TTB is proud to announce a partnership with Music Never Stops: the Tyler Seaman Foundation, a charity that provides funding for music therapy programs for children and young adults living with cancer and other serious illnesses. In honor of Tyler Seaman, a devoted young fan who drew strength from music during his four-year battle with cancer that took his life at the age of 18, TTB will donate $1 from every ticket sold to our September 21 show at the Beacon Theatre to support the foundation and its mission to create Tyler's Room, a new music therapy space at Beth Israel Medical Center for teenagers with serious illnesses. We're also donating two tickets and backstage passes for the 9/21 Beacon Theatre show to be auctioned off to support Tyler's Room. Visit www.tylersmusicroom.org to learn more about how you can join us in supporting this great cause.

Thank you, Doug! This is a really cool thing for us since the dTb, TTB and ABB showed Tyler a lot of kindness over the years. But we're going to need a lot of help to get to our goals and there is a lot we want to do.

What a generous gesture on behalf of TTB. They show a lot of class and style.

I believe they really embody the spirit of the 60's; they are refreshing in this day and age!!

As somebody else said, "music is love."

Please do check out our website or Beth Israel if you have a chance. Their therapists are amazing. When we started thinking about this project last year, we were pretty much just imagining a space in a hospital or a clinic where kids could come and make some music during treatment. Beth Israel and the Louis Armstrong program and way, way more advanced than that, and we want to help them do even more.

What a wonderful tribute to an amazing young man (and beautiful to see how your love for Tyler continues growing and has spread out to envelop others ... his footprints are never-ending now). This is how he would have it, I'm guessing. I pulled out one of his mix CD's for a listen the other day after visiting his 'room' on FB and I had to smile at the thought of how much he continues to shine in this world. And the road goes on forever...

(Love and kudos to the Seamans - and to TTB - for helping to make the music matter and sharing it's healing powers. )

There are angels all around. Some we see, some we don't. Some we hear laughing among the stars...

Thank you to the TTB for opening their hearts and providing a great opportunity for the Tyler Seaman Foundation to begin laying down its foundation.

people can you feel it?

Usually I say the less we know about musicians we like the better, they have feet of clay just like we all do.

This is lovely.

Hittin' the Note held some Skydog Box Sets in reserve to help support causes we believe in. This is one of them. A portion of each sale will be donated to The Music Never Stops: The Tyler Seaman Foundation.

Tyler Seaman was a friend to all of us at HTN, a young man we held in high esteem, as we do the rest of his family. We shared many joyous moments with him as he experienced all of the goodness that comes from a live Allman Brother experience. I will never forget the happiness that I saw first hand as Oteil played Tyler's bass guitar on stage at the Beacon. I was standing backstage with Tyler at the moment it occurred and he was absolutely beaming. Derek and Oteil went out of their way to give of themselves on several occasions in an effort to create some very special moments in Tyler's life...good people indeed!

If you know of someone who is in need of a Skydog Box Set, and would like to participate in this donation, please refer them to this link:

Thank you,
