http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/1992-03-11/features/9201130330_1_allman-br others-band-beacon-theatre-tape

In this interview Gregg stated: ``The night before closing night was really hot,`` Gregg recalls. ``We played until dawn. But we didn`t get a good tape, so we couldn`t use most of it."

I know, I know, Gregg's memory and all, but up to this day I still can't believe that the last, public show at the Fillmore wasn't taped.....

It will probably be released as bonus tracks to the new studio album with all compositions by Gregg Allman.

Now THAT was hilarious!!!!! (LMFAO)

The story I always heard was, and I quote:
"All the recording equipment was there but nobody thought to turn it on"
I've always thought this was a BS statement; how could such an important show not be documented???

Because nobody thought it'd be worth money decades later, for one thing. The band did record and listen to their own performances sometimes but I don't know if they did it every night. I would love it if there were a tape, but unless I see documentation I'm going to assume Gregg is mistaken.

And the bull **** begins in the first reply. Way to go, guys- this stuff is way more interesting than talking about the band or answering people's questions.

There is nothing more boring or unfunny than hearing Gregg say in an interview "I've been writing a lot lately" etc. or hearing about another archival recording that "might" be released. In fact, at this point some of these statements are downright painful to read.

Statements like these deserve to be made fun of ESPECIALLY one talking about a recording of THE most elusive ABB show ever. Holy Grail Show recorded? Possibly released? Please.

I always sorta get a chuckle with the whole "we played til dawn" line...while that's true, their set didn't start until 3:30 or 4 in the morning, right? Made it a little easier to "play til dawn."

It's not like the show started at 8:30 the night before and they played through the night for nine straight hours...

Although to be fair, the big jam at the end seems to get longer every time someone mentions it...pretty soon it might be 9 hours long

If this was a first time poster, I would have more sympathy for your remarks. But anyone that posts regularly on this board has seen countless interviews where Mr. Allman makes interview statements that have little to do with reality. How can you discuss something absurd in a serious manner?

The joke is that he doesn't have to make these faux promises.

He is rarely asked, "Are you writing lots of new songs?" - he invariably offers the information.

At his mini-set in London recently at the premiere of the Muscle Shoals movie, he stated that he is "doing his level best" to get the ABB to tour Europe. Now, we all know that this is almost certainly not going to happen. No-one put his feet to the fire and demanded to know.

Spare us the slim hope with stories of new albums, new songs, new tours please. We won't think any less of you!

I have been raving about that Mtn Jam for years! 4.5 hours of pure bliss.

Graham recorded most everything which is why the vault has so much stuff. So to think that he would not record the closing shows or ensured that they were recirded is a stretch. It may not have sounded good and perhaps everyone was blasted which would account for the memories that they have of that night.

Funny that there are so many stories of 4+ hour shows and yet many here collect shows and not one exceeds 3 discs and many shows fit on one. It is strange how none of those magical shows are traded.

Is that supposed to be an accomplishment?

Sorry - couldn't resist.

The new ABB album of Gregg's tunes is a double by the way. And even then Warreen just couldn't get a song on there.

Damn.

I was stoked to hear the acoustic reggae version of Rocking Horse.

Seems to me that Gregg is getting the March 1971 shows and the June 1971 shows mixed up. I don't think the June 26th show was recorded at all, and the quote:
"But we didn`t get a good tape, so we couldn`t use most of it" is referring to what happened in March '71, and/or June 27, 1971.
