Have not seen anything "official" yet, but according to Devon on his fb page Bobby has passed at 83.
Ride in peace brother. Had a blast with you and BB on the '78 tour.

Damn....looks like Bobby Blue Bland has died. One of the best concerts I ever went to, right around 1980, was the lineup of B.B. King, Bobby Blue Bland and the always edgy Millie Jackson. It happened at the prestigious Music Hall in Cincinnati and all of us who went as well as the rest of the crowd was dressed in suits and fine dresses and it was a badass atmosphere, like the damn Cotton Club or something.... That was right about the time that BB and Bobby put out that killer live album they made together. With everyone dressed to the nines...Bobby worked the crowd and the ladies and he had them throwing their expensive scarves and such to him from the balcony. What a classy and rockin' night of the Blues! "Turn on your love light, baby....Ow!" RIP Bobby Blue Bland. If you don't know his stuff - get it!!

Yeah, it's official now that he's gone. The only reference to cause of death was "complications from an ongoing illness".

So sad. We've lost so many blues and R&B greats over the last few years.

Sorry to hear this.

I too saw Bobby w/ BB in '78 (I think) at the UGA coliseum. Good show that I probably would not have gone to w/o the student price.

I saw him in Westbury with BB. Glad I got to see him while he was alive. He was great. All the ladies were dressed up in their church clothes coming out to see Bobby and blush in the darkness when the lights went down. Very emotive singer, BB had a great time that night too. They jammed.

'79 - maybe '80 BBKing & Bobby Blue Bland Blues Revue made a stop in our little town @ our civic center (music barn). Two close buds & I went out to see the two legends perform. Glad I got see him that night ( I've seen BB on several other occasions). Highlight of that night was 30 mins into BB's set, he brought out Toy Caldwell from the MTB and they proceeded to throw down for over an hour! Just freakin AWESOME call & response - one of my alltime favorite nights of music, less than a mile from my livin room!

Just last week Thom Doucette told me a fantastic story about he and Duane sitting in with Blue in Atlanta... It will be in the book...

A great, great talent... and a tremendous loss...

I saw Bobby Blue Bland in a little club in Augusta, GA back around 1981 or 1982. Newly married, not a lot of money to spend, however my wife convinced me to go with a friend is I did. I sat and listened to the band play all this bluesy jazz stuff, along with songs Bobby made famous like St James Infirmary and I was nursing my one beer and taking a look at a real band. After the show I went up to Mr. Bland and told him how much I enjoyed the show. He graciously said Thank You with a big smile on his face. Then Wayne Bennett (guitarist extraordinaire) walked over and I told him the same thing. I told them both that I loved Stormy Monday and I asked them why they played The Allman Brothers version if the song, to which Mr. Bland said " how could we not... Them boys are great" or something like that. I finally heard BBB version of Stormy Monday several years ago and realized the ABB practically lifted the guitar solos from BBB's version of course giving him and T bone walker credit in the live recording. One if e best nights of my life in front of a band. And then Wayne Bennett asked me to help them tear equipment down and I did. Man were his guitar Amos heavy

I'm a bit behind on what's going on in the world. This news saddens me. He was an abbsolutely bonafide classic blues/soul singer. They don't make 'em like Bobby anymore.
