Very true. NO such thing as accidents with firearms, only utter stupidity and carelessness.

Couldn't agree more - the parents really need to be harshly dealt with on this.

Regardless of who owned the gun, it was carelessly left out unattended and loaded. It was a complete lack of responsibility by the parents Very tragic.

This might make a good question on a mental profile questionnaire for a gun owner. It's not just the criminals we should be worried about.

Right. It's certainly not just the "criminals" we're worried about it.

No background check needed to test sanity and intelligence, no license needed to buy, no tests needed to teach safe use....lets just give them out like candy to anyone who wants one, because this is 'Merica, and thats what being 'Merican is all about. The problem with some legal gun owners is the lackadaisical attitude they take about the tool who's only design is to kill.

A gun has no other purpose. Any ancillary events that has happened because of the invention...i.e. sport shooting and collecting....are only there because people will find another service for just about anything...look what we've done to the telephone.

Every gun owner i know has displayed his weapon to me at some point thinking I'd be interested but to me it shows how little they value the laws saying it should be kept locked and unloaded. When I ask them that question they say. "What good is a gun that's locked away and unloaded"...

Thanks, Ron. I had to withhold my comment. BB has made similar statements in other threads.

And Geordie, the 2 year old was the one that got shot by a 5 yr. old.

I was given a 20 ga. shotgun by my grandfather when I was 8. But whenever I shot it, I was heavily supervised and never allowed to carry it loaded. When we were hunting, the shell in my pocket (think Barney) wasn't chambered until the dogs were on point and I was given a strict radius in which I could fire. I still have that gun.

5 yrs old with any weapon is the true mark of an idiot.

EGG ZAKK LEE

My grandson has a 410 shotgun his dad gave him for his birthday, he's shot a .22 with his uncle Derek supervising him.

No way in hell would he ever touch either of those guns without permission and supervision.

He knows better, we know better, normal people understand gun safety.

when I was a kid, we couldn't buy a BB Gun without a parent's permission, then only at about age 12... now they sell them in PINK for the Barbie Crowd

I was allowed to shoot a .22 at the local amusement park "Shooting gallery" maybe once or twice at age 10... and only under strict adult supervision

to sell guns aimed at 5 year old market, says a lot about our society IMHO

even the guy who wrote the book "Gun Guys" agreed all guns should be under lock and key out of the reach of kids

this is the sad truth Guns are no different than poison and I believe we are more aware of poison than guns and that is the problem prayers for the family , It can not be said enough guns and children have to be stricly taken care of and locked away when not being used.... and ammo should be locked away in a different location .....

Yes, it was an assclown statement indeed. It pretty much sums up the pro-gun stance, as evidenced all over this site. Your prescious 2nd amendment shall not be infringed by a fraction of a percent, even as kids die. No problem stripping the Boston bombers of their amendment rights, but cannot strip anyone of the prescious 2nd.

So guns are no different than poison. That's an interesting statement. Makes ya think, don't it Rydethewind?

People die all the time.

When I was young four high school students died when their canoe overturned in the lake.

By your logic we should ban canoes.

Kids on bikes get killed all the time when hit by cars.

Should we ban bikes or cars? Or both?

Arguments like yours make me want to join the NRA.
