The unfortunate George Jones thread got me thinking about "good" country music.

Absolutely agree on the "good country" statement... Merle is one of the foundations for sure...

I recently watched the ACM awards & was wondering what happened to country music... it sure didn't resemble anything I associate with that type of music.

I know.

I can not..literaly...stomach the *country* station here where I live. It is unlistenable

Half the time it sounds like very bad rock music, and the other half of the time sounds like very bad pop music. They play everything under the sun, except country. but they call it "country!!!

Maybe it is because I have been on a Billy Joe Shaver kick lately... His boy Eddy could sure tear it up on that strat!

Amen!!!! Stevechild, Eddie Shaver was tutored by, and really looked up to Mr. Richard Forrest Betts. He had that sweet tone that most guitar players would sign at the crossroads for! I watch that Austin City Limits dvd of their performance quite often!
