I mentioned in another thread recently that I have a friend at work whose wife works in the music business here in Atlanta. At first there was a rumor about the ABB playing Chastain, but that was shot down. However, he just showed me this email from his wife.....

"it's official....

Monday Sept. 2, 2013 (Labor Day) at Verizon Amphitheater

The Allman Brothers!
*just 1 show as of now"

Some quick points....

--It's not "official" until it's announced, and even then, things could change. There is no way this gets announced until after Wanee, at the very earliest.
--This rumor comes with no guarantee, express or implied, and if it turns out to be wrong, no party shall have any financial recourse against Rob Johnson, his heirs or assigns.

All that said, sounds like a winner to me! Reminiscent of the July 4th shows at Lakewood back in the day, but at a better venue and with better weather.

Woo hoo!

The limitation of liability does not include executors.

Thanks Rob!

Awesome, thanks for sharing. I remember a particularly fantastic labor day weekend in 1999, seeing the Brothers at Oak Mountain and Lakewood. That Lakewood show is still one of my favorites, Derek's first show with the Brothers in Atlanta.

This news coupled with the announcement of Tedeschi Trucks co headlining w/ the Black Crowes July 20th at Verizon Wireless in Alpharetta is making my day!

Probably, but as Rob says, look for announcements after Wanee.

This is a fairly small amphitheater, kevinumberger, no more than 10,000 tops. The ABB have played Evening With shows at Chastain Park, a similar-sized venue here in Atlanta, so it's possible, but there could be an opener.

DanB can throw things at me if I'm wrong, but trust me, nobody wants this to be true more than me.

Please no seconding the pre announcement from Brock! That is a sure sign that the show will not happen .

I'd expect an opener. They almost always have them in the summer even if they do a long show. Verizon Amp @Encore Park holds 12,000 and Chastain Park holds a little over 7000 or maybe a few more for a no tables show. They ABB packed out Chastain last year so Verizon would be a reasonable place to book if they did cheaper lawn seats. ABB tickets were pretty pricey last year.

also........last year at chastain, moe opened........

i just dont see them expecting to pack 12,000 into verizon without another "name" on the bill........

Ha, no problem, I wish you had drank more of it at Chastain, because I surely drank way too much of the flask.

Thanks for the props Brock, but the credit goes to my buddy at work. I'll thank him tomorrow.

Who would have thought I would have better inside scoop on ABB tour dates working at a ceramics company than I did working for HTN? The world is a strange place sometimes.....

Verizon has been trying to book the Brothers for years. This is an easy venue all the way around. I love Chastain, but I like the move for the Brothers and the fans. Cheaper, free parking, easy access for most.
