I know mine: "But first, Are You Experienced? Have you ever been Experienced? Well...........
I ha-aa-aa-aave."

That title cut on Jimi Hendrix' debut to me is the most mindblowing tune to come out of the 60's. Jimi made a huge statement and he immediately backed it up with "Let me prove it to you" and then took us off on a psychedelic feedback journey. There has never been such a clear cut definition that rock 'n' roll music has just been expanded to new heights.......and hey folks, I'm gonna take your mind along with me. Forget everything you knew about rock 'n' roll composition, you can't even imagine where the music is going now. You can look all over 60's music or in any other era...........to me that one song, that one statement was the biggest predictor that rock 'n' roll music will never be the same from here on out.

From The Lemon Song: "Squeeze my lemon... let the juice flow down my leg..."

Lots of good ones out there. For me I have to go back to the song that started it all for me,
"Smoke on the water... the fire in the sky." Cheers!

I love all things Hendrix, and enjoyed your post. When I read your thread title, the first thing I thought of was Lennon's "Instant Karma". Specifically, the line right before the first chorus.

The first two verses remind me of Dylan's "Ballad of a Thin Man", or one of the many other songs where the narrator is telling a certain kind of listener to get his **** together or get out of the way. Like Gregory hoping that the War Freaks/Terrorists will die off, leaving us alone. To me the first two verses have that kind of vibe.

But just before the chorus, Lennon shifts it. "Who on Earth do you think you are? A superstar? WELL RIGHT YOU ARE!" -- and then into the glorious, INCLUSIVE chorus that makes me wanna take both hands off the wheel and high five my headliner.

"Well, right you are!">chorus is one of my favorite sections in music. It turns it into such a positive song. I heard Lennon wrote and recorded that song in one day, and that blows my mind.

ONE??? Impossible! Here's a few (one of them in my signature)

If you smile at me I will understand
'Cause that is something everybody everywhere does in the same language

Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow

I was so much older then ...
I'm younger than that now

You can't break the rules until ya know how to play the game

His eyes hold Edith, his left hand holds his right
What does that hand desire that he grips it so tight

I've seen the needle and the damage done
A little part of it in everyone ...
But every junkie's like a setting sun.

We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year
Running over the same old ground - what have we found?
The same old fears ... wish you were here

When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone - I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown, the dream is gone
I have become comfortably numb

Now I see you standing with brown leaves falling around and snow in your hair
Now you're smiling out the window of that crummy hotel over Washington Square

(I need to quit - now ... )

a lot of powerful statements out there, acouple that pop into my mind, kind of opposite ends of the spectrum
"now if I let you see this place where stories all ring true,
would you let me past your face
to see whats really you?.......(Outlaws).. that one speaks volumes to me
another that I would love to know who he wrote it about,
"I wish that for just one day,
you could stand inside my shoes
you'd know what a drag it is to see you",(Bob Dylan)

"Well 30 years of heart and soul, lord we took it further than rock and roll.
We stood together thru thick and thin, yeah we made the best of it all back then.
Then I guess time, took it's toll, cut me deep, cut me cold.
Brother against brother, one against the other.
Ahhh it looks like they're here to stay....here comes the blues again."

"So hey let me tell you what I'm talkin' about.
You can't go around with your lip stuck out.
Life ain't good, but it sure ain't bad.
Anyway, it's the best ol' life I ever had."

And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make

Until you've seen this trash can dream come true
You stand at the edge while people run you through
And I thank the Lord there's people out there like you

You're windy and wild, you've got the blues in your shoes and your stockings

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung,
Would you hear my voice come thru the music,
Would you hold it near as it were your own?

You can't always get what you want, but if you try some time, you just might find you get what you need.

I taught my kids those lyrics at a very early age...
