Nice song, but didn't have an ABB sound to theses ears.

To me, it's got elements of a feel of "Desdemona" or in that family of sound.

Marley was kind enough to post his best attempt at the lyrics in another thread, I'm sure he won't mind me reposting them....

A new moon is rising
What happened to the old one?
Did it burn itself out shining night after night
From dusk till dawn?

And now the sky is different
Everything is wrapped up in a brand new glow
Sleeping constellations
Questions without answer
From dusk till dawn

Blood runs through my veins
Like a river, wild and free
Natural it seems
But maybe only to me
To me...

[Harmony lines]

I live my own life
Pushed by the wind, hiding from the Sun
Running who knows where
Who knows where
From dusk till dawn

[Derek solo]

Everybody tells me 'yuou've got to join the human race
Sleep when they sleep, wake when they wake'
But I believe the answers only come
From dusk till dawn

Blood runs through my veins
Like a river towards the seas
Natural it seems
But maybe only to me
To me...

[Slow jam into Warren solo, then back to verse and chorus]

Blood runs through my veins
Like a river towards the seas
Natural it seems
But maybe only to me
To me...

[Derek solo]

To me, this song is reminiscent in feel to Warren's jazzy arrangement of All Along The Watchtower. I can also see the resemblance to House Of The Rising Sun that others have mentioned. It has that 3/4 waltz time thing going on, and while I'm not technical enough musically to be sure, it sounds like it shares some of the same chords.

I thoroughly enjoyed this song when they played it Sat. night. A bit of a waltz-y time (1,2,3...2,2,3...) to it, but a real bluesy feel as well. Great solos on this one.

Great tune! Soundwise to me, it is more a Mule song with Derek sitting in than an ABB song. Everyone else is a bonus.

I don't mean that negative in any way. Just reminds me of Warren's writing over the last few Mule albums.

I'm with ya on this. Liked it a lot. Loved Derek's first solo.

Is it just me or does it appear that Oteil has dropped some lbs and looks to be in really good shape? He looks great.

I dig it. Particularly enjoy Derek's playing on this one and the harmony vocal that comes in (which would be more pronounced in the studio I am sure). I'd be very happy to hear this one live.

I like the tune. It has a jazzy, bluesy feel to it which sort of defines the band to me.

Well definetly a "Warren Haynes" song... doesn't really resonate with me as being in the ABB vein, but it would have fit in on Hittin the Note with old before my time etc...

The Brothers have recorded so many different sounding songs over the decades (even in just their first decade). They tend to be blues, country, or rock based and sometimes have a jazzy feel, and often have a bluesy vocal style. This one more than fits to these ears.

Everything fits the ABB. These guys could play scales all day and I would like it.

Love It , Love It, Love It!

Personally i think it kinda sounds like a song Warren would have written for Phil Lesh & Friends but i think it suits the ABB pretty well. And how about that first solo from Derek? Vavoooooooom!!!!!!!!

I thought the exact same thing. Still I think it fits in with the rest of the ABB catalog which is varied to say the least. I'll take it over a bunch of cover songs. Oh, wait, their doing a bunch of cover songs too. Damn.

think of another jazzy song in 3/4 (or 6/8) time on the 1st album

Very nice song. I think it is excellent and sounds like the ABB. Well done fellas!!!

Dereks tone is amazing as it always is. When he starts to dig in with his fingers and starts getting on that slide he just hits that sweet spot when it starts to break up and gets a little crunchy.

Ok this song and maybe about 5-6 more originals and a few covers of some stuff they have not done yet or are not in the regular rotation and you will have a new release.YEAH!!!

Great song - very impressive for its first ever performance too - already 9:00 mins and room to perhaps open it up even more in the jazzy middle sections.

Also underscores what a songwriting machine Warren Haynes is - its really remarkable how much material he turns out.
