I was just on ultimateclassicrock.com and here's their list of the top 10 Eric Clapton songs:

1. Layla
2. Crossroads
3. Sunshine Of Your Love
4. Little Wing
5. White Room
6. I Shot The Sheriff
7. Bell Bottom Blues
8. Cocaine
9. Badge
10. Motherless Children

I would've picked some other songs for mine. These are good songs, but some are overplayed for me.

I'd delete I Shot The Sheriff and Cocaine and add Tears In Heaven and Wonderful Tonight.

Give me a break. Layla is a Clapton penned tune which Duane Allman added the opening riff and some other guitar parts to. Clapton added guitar parts on The Beatles' While My Guitar Gently Weeps. That doesn't mean he should have gotten credit for writing it instead of George Harrison.

Don't see how you come to that conclusion. Duane was a part of it but didn't write the song nor is he remembered for it to be honest. Many people don't even know that he played on it while it is Clapton's signature song.

It could esily be argued that if Duane's Top Ten were picked that a Clapton song would be Duane's #1.

Too hard to come up with a ten for Clapton as it leaves out so many songs. I would replace all the radio songs. A few to add

Why Does Love.....
Presence Of The Lord
Finding My Way Home
Bad Love

Ok, the whole Layla album would not be anywhere what it is without Duane. Duane is all over the whole thing, and if I'm not mistaken Duane came up with the Layla 'riff' everyone credits Clapton for.....I said nothing about who wrote the song, it's beside the point. Btw Clapton did not 'write' every song on this list anyway.....

And I agree most people don't know Duane played on it. That's kind of my point, that's a big problem with 'most' people.....

Did he write any of them? There's only a few I'm not sure about.

Don't question Duane's contributions at all but it is a Clapton song. Would the album be as good without Duane? of course not but Duane was joining Clapton's project and not the other way around.

The combination makes it great.

If you want to split hairs:

Little Wing - Hendrix
I Shot the Sheriff - Marley
Cocaine - JJ Cale

In each case, Eric made them his own.

No, it would be a Wilson Pickett song followed by a Roz Scaggs one!

Crossroads-Robert Johnson....

I guess it is all a matter of preference. I just don't like Clapton. Come to think of it, I can think of versions of almost this whole list without Clapton I think are better........

Didnt Delaney Bramlett write "let it rain"?. and "white room" was written by Jack Bruce I believe.

I think I would like to see a list that consits more of material and songs that are not the hits, radio friendly type stuff. There are some great songs he does that can stand head and shoulders with the ones mentioned. I can think of many.

I agree with the comments about the radio-friendly songs. Some of those I just can't stand as I've heard them a million times.

One not mentioned are a few songs from the album "August". Love that release.

Three that stick out:

Tearing Us Apart - the duet with Tina Turner

It's in the Way that You Use It

Take a Chance

All songs tha fly under the radar but I think they should get a nod.
