For someone who randomly drove to the Blue Ridge Mountains from Iowa, it's not that far away... you just did not have enough notice.

From Dickey's guest book; just watched and listened to this from the other night, sounds like six people playing six different songs.

I think Dickey sounds great in that clip! His band may not be as tight as ABB but they don't have the opportunity to be...don't tour enough. I don't go to hear Great Southern, though. God bless Dickey Betts...late 60's and still smokin' it. That tone, baby! Man I hope I can make the Atlanta show in April...last time I saw Brother Dickey was Hilton Head '08 and he hit me square in the mouth w/ True Gravity, front row-center. Pedro noticed by B.O t-shirt and let me hold Berry's bass and pluck a few notes...a night I'll NEVER forget.

Its a new year but still the same old, right.

Whats your take on 87 year old B.B. King still playing....he wants to know if thats o.k. with you.

I saw Dickey Wednesday night at the Turning Stone Casino in Vernona,NY. Dickey and the band sounded fantastic. They put on a great two hour show, the only mess up of the show was when the played Blue Sky. Dickey had started to sing the the third verse so they ended the song without doing the first two verses or chorus. The youtube videos do not do that band justice. I highly recommend anyone thinking about seeing him to go, you never know how much longer he'll be around.

That's a pretty huge "messup". Glad the rest of the show was good. I have not had much luck with catching Dickey on a good night in the few times I've seen him since he split with the Bros. I hope to catch a good one before he's gone.

I didn't go to the show even though TS is one of my favorite venues.

Didn't want to buy a ticket in advance given the chance of a no-show.

I hate to think of these younger greats, like Dickey or Gregg or the Stones, in the same way I think of BB King, that you'd better see them before they're gone. However, that probably is a realistic way of thinking.

As to the other way of using the BB comparison - that we should have an understanding of a performer's age and its affect on his ability to perform - I guess that is probably wise also.

Maybe that is part of why I am so enthusiastic about Derek - he obviously is in the prime of life and thus in the prime of his playing. I don't need to consider mitigating circumstances or reflect on how he used to be.

Dickey & Great Southern were great last night at Penn's Peak. Strong performance. Occasionally disjointed but probably not noticeable to non-musicians. When they started "One Way Out" Dickey was plying it perfectly but Duane was playing something a little off and Andy was out of sync a bit too but they brought it together. High Falls was a highlight for me as well as "Change My Way Of Living" and "Nothing You Can Do" - I really wish he'd play more tunes from the first Great Southern era.

For a while I've been on the fence about Mike Kach (sp?). Last night I decided i do not like his voice. I tried to like it all these years but I can't do. He played the hell out of the piano though. Jessica was terrific and he played well on all the others too.

Dickey seemed in good spirits, patted Duane on the back after a kick-ass solo in IMOER, and told the crowd that some nights are better than others and they were having fun tonight.

Some idiot kept yelling for "It's Not My Cross To Bear." I laughed the first few times then I just felt bad for them.

They opened with a song I didn't recognize.
Other tunes I recall, not necessarily in order:
Tune I didn't recognize
Statesboro Blues
One Way Out
High Falls
You Don't Love Me
Jessica
Nothing You Can Do
Change My Way Of Living
IMOER
No One To Run With
Ramblin' Man

They played 2 & 1/2 hours. I'm so glad i went. I had low expectations but I was blown away. Had a great (southern) time!

if you have Facebook you can see my pix. they are public.

Dickey "told the crowd that some nights were better than others...".

That's for sure. I was at Ridgefield and it was mostly an uninspired mess, especially the first half. Glad to hear the good reports about the other shows, but I note a conspicuous silence here and at Dickey's site about the Ridgefield show, and I think I know why....

Judging from a video shot from a cellphone? that is the faulty part of youtube. Think you are being harsh on DB and the guys.

Glad to hear that everyone seems to be enjoying the shows. I have beeen very lucky and have never caught Dickey on an "off" night.

I was at The Ridgefield show and thought it was a bit of a buswreck. I didn't think they sounded tight at all. I guess as Dickey himself says, some shows are better than ithers. I thought he did show flashes of brilliance during Blues Sky and Jessica. Here's a little piece of Jessica that I got. (They're really bad about allowing video taping at Ridgefield Playhouse so this is all I got).
But as The Dude says, "It's just an opinion, man". I'm glad that there's shows that people did think were great.

Good point. Don't think I haven't thought about that Greensboro, NC show in April. You can never tell with me. I loved NC.

I thought Dickey & Great Southern were great in Ridgefield? Dickey showed he's human by forgetting the opening lyrics to Change My Way Of Living and drove the intro around for a second lap but had me laughing as he later joked about it.... "And I wrote the friggin' thing".

I loved the show. Folks will see positive & negative in the same picture I guess? I posted 2 video's in the other thread about Dickey.

Its funny, I rather enjoyed the Ridgefield show. Sure there were a few fck ups, but they are human. I felt like he won me back, as I had not been to see him in some time. I was actually pleasantly surprised.
