Hey BIGV,
I'm going to the show as well, saw Bob Weir at this venue last month. Great venue and looking forward to the show. Where's the pre-concert place to meet up?

aloha,
Jack

Going! I have seats in the second row. Closet I have ever been at a ABB/Gregg show.

I have two extra tickets in Row D (6th row, orchestra) if anyone is interested. Let me know!

For those of you who are going to the show - maybe we can get a few thoughts, reviews, etc.?

The highlight of the performance last night for me was definitely the power and command Gregg appears to have regained over his voice. Confident and full of soul...."I can't be satisfied" being just that, I mean the band just steam rolled it. Good mojo there. ...At one point while strapping on an acoustic guitar before playing "These Days".....he could be heard saying to the crowd... "I've been in the hospital..... I'm b a c k ".....as he turned to face the crowd with a somewhat sardonic type of look his face ....funny.

Musically?.. ..."Dreams"...hit the note. Definitely. Bruce Katz just nailed it. "Wasted Words" was a pleasant surprise only because I had never heard Gregg's band play it "live" before tonight. But the rest of the performance was pretty predictable..."I'm no Angel"...."Statesboro Blues"...& "Don't keep me wonderin' "... As good as Scott Sharrard is and I think he's a pretty damn fine player..... the slide playing on the last two seems almost...well, obligatory. "Statesboro Blues" ? Give us some more of that "swing" & blues with those horns!..............sorry.

Let me add that this is a beautiful venue and the sound was spot on.....

The opening act last night night reminded of the scene in some John Cusack movie where a love stricken, heart-broken young girl had written 256 songs about the same boy....

Thanks for the review Vince. I'm going with a party of of seven on Tuesday 1/15 at The Palace of Fine Arts in SF. Really glad we didn't get the opening act that you did! We've got Jaimoe's Jasssz Band. Which really surprises me, two California shows within 8 days of each other, why didn't you get Jaimoe as well? Well, they ARE around 450 miles apart and maybe Jaimoe had other obligations this week. I'm not going, but Jaimoe is opening in Sacramento on 1/16 as well.

I'm with you on Statesboro. I enjoyed the big band swing treatment Gregg gave it a few years ago with a great change of pace in the last 1/4 of the song to end it more like the ABB arrangement.

This version Gregg is playing is like the ABB arrangement without as talented of a slide player. The change may have to do with Gregg only having Jay on sax instead of 3 horn players a few years ago.

Overall, Gregg sang with so much confidence a few weeks ago. It bodes very well for March at the Beacon. Maybe I'll be able to sneak my way in NYC for a show. We'll see...

Thanks for the reviews! Gregg, you rock bro
it's crazy tho -- after the SF show JJB fits in that one last Sacramento show the next night (merely a 450-mile overnight hop ) -- BUT, 48 hours after that
a FLA gig?????
that's what the homepage says anyway
now that is a cross country ramble if there ever was one -- hopefully there's plenty of coffee & clear sailing right from when they pack up from that Sac. gig, to Ft. Myers -- truthfully I didn't know such a trip was possible -- safe travels always...
it's awesome to see the guys playing such stellar gigs, & same brother Dickey, who's in the middle of 4-in-5 nights around the NY-NJ area...

It struck me kind of odd that Jaimoe is coming to the west cost for only two gigs, back to back. BTW, SF and Sacamento are less than 100 miles apart. Both cities have a major airport, and it's a five hour flight to FL from either one. Jaimoe has a hookup in NorCal?

Didn't even try. He was pretty clear about that.....And yes, I believe you are the only one.

I am however going to try to get Bonnie Raitt to sign it next month...

My bad
And, road warrior that Jaimoe is, a 48-hour cross-country trip from the Sacramento gig on the 16th, to the Ft. Myers gig on the 18th, probably isn't much -- again, I didn't know you could drive cross country in 48 hours, much less unpack and set up for a gig -- but I don't get out much so...
