I guess it's that time again...

I seem to be continuing my trend of buying fewer and fewer new releases. I only bought four new albums this year, even though I bought an armfull of older stuff that I still needed to plug up some gaps.

And there are still a couple released this year that I have just not gotten around to picking up yet.

Any way here are my big four for this year

Neil Young -Americana
Neil Young -Psychedelic Pill
Joe Walsh-Analog Man
Bob Mould-Silver Age

And even though I have not purchased them yet, I also really liked :

Bruce Springsteen-Wrecking Ball
Bob Dylan- Tempest
Jack White-Blunderbuss

Never really got The White Stripes beyond being a clever hype and visual concept, but I did like what I heard of this one from my brother's borrowed copy.

Best Re-issue:

Jerry Garcia/Merl Saunders- Live At Keystone

Just waiting for my Christmas Amazon Gift cards to come in so I can snag this one ...

Yours ?

Springsteen-Wrecking Ball
Dylan-Tempest
Neil- Psychedelic Pill
Dr John-Locked Down

Sticking w/ 4, but honorable mention to Bonnie Raitt-Slipstream

Given the market, a fine year for new music.

Hey Brock!

Yeah. Wrecking Ball and Tempest are both on my to buy list.

I have heard both thanks to the local public library but I also needed that memory jog from you ...

Last year I listed The Decemberists, Blitzen Trapper, and The Barr Brothers as favorite albums ...

With the exception of Jack White, I really haven't heard anything current this year that's grabbed me...

I would say Neil's psychedlic pill and Americana, Dylan's tempest recently. The summer i had Jimmy cliffs new one in heavy rotation along with the black keys. I'll throw in Gary Clark jr. Blak and blu as a good record from a younger artist in 2012. I enjoyed bonnies album over the summer also. Good laid back grilling tunes. How could I forget Chris robinsons big moon ritual. That could be my most played of 2012 . The second one was good also but I big moon got the most spins from me.

Warrens live Album from moody theatre in Austin is my favorite current live album. Was that 2012 or 11?

Reissues- the spring 90 dead box and mule Georgia box are awesome. I'm hitting the age where archival releases are from eras I was a part of. I recall the dead in 90 and mule 96 very fondly

I can't recall if Dave's picks hartford 74 for the dead was 2012 or 2011 but it is the best single show release I've heard In a while.

Best shows i wasn't at and instant lives - abb peach fest in Scranton

Sorry to have contributed to your sadness. My mistake in thinking "current" meant artists that presently release new music and also tour.

I always have enjoyed the CD of music that is included in the Oxford American magazine Music Issue each year, I have all 14 years worth of CDs. This year the focus is on the music of Louisiana. It is all good stuff.

This was a pretty good year of releases imho. The old timers like Neil and Dylan had solid releases but I have to say that Chris Robinsons Big Moon Ritual was by far the best thing to hit my ears this year. Fantastic album of Grateful Dead like tunes.

2. Neil Young - Psychadelic Pill
3. TTB - Everybodys Talkin
4. Warren Haynes Band - Live at Moody Theatre
5. Chris Robinson Brotherhood - Magic Door
Honerable Mention - Bob Dylan - Tempest
