Hello. My name is Drake and this is my first post. Two months ago, I attended my first (two) Gov't Mule shows, and I noticed something that concerned me thoroughly. The male to female ratio was rediculously disproportionate. I was at the show at the Gothic theatre in Denver and the Fillmore the next night. Tickets for the Gothic were originally only available as a two night pass so I suspect this had a little to do with the fact that the ratio was(at the VERY least) 5/1. The Fillmore show was a little better but I would still estimate that it was around 3/1.

I am 19 years old and Warren Haynes is my favorite musician and I figured that there would be some cool ladies that are into the amazing awesomeness that is the mule but apparently I am wrong. And I sort of noticed this when I saw the Warren Haynes band on Halloween, but I assumed that it was just because there is a million things to do on that holiday. And it was way different when I saw Warren play with Phil Lesh in February.

Please tell me that I'm not a crazy person and am imagining this. Also is it like this at the Almonds? Reguardless of all of this, I will continue to see Warren as many times as possible, it just I am quite curious about this phenomena. Thank you.

A woman I took to an Allman brothers show called it a "sausage fest". No lines for women's restroom at all.

and honestly i've met/seen quite a few groovy chicks at Mule shows, although it is largely a male crowd.......you could follow dave matthews or jack johnson if you go to shows strickly for chicks. or one of those pop country clowns like kenny chesney

I understand it could be much worse, I am just surprised and disappointed that such an incredible show is overlooked so much by women. I wonder what the reason is.

Went to a Crimson Projekt show this summer and this guy brought his girlfriend she was at the front bar within one song of the Stick Men set.

The Mule shows Ive been to have had a few good looking women but not as much as the Sublime tribute show I went to a while back

I don't think it's such a mystery. Women generally aren't so into guitar-based jamband type rock music.

I think they prefer shorter songs and something they can dance to.

Throw in the fact that some of the bands and players are not very physically attractive, and no attempt is made to make the show visually appealing and you can perhaps understand why many woman - and lots of men too - have little interest.

We had that debate on here a while ago. Went to a Mule show a short time after and had a laugh with some of the members from here at the show. In a crowd of about 500, we were hard pressed to find a dozen women.

Following week was the same thing.

reminds me of Alex Lifeson from Rush when he commented that in the begiining the crowd was 100% guys and now after all the fame the crowd is.......still 100% guys.

Ahh yes, that's the reason. She muttered as she readied for her Bonamassa show this evening.

Same here in Europe. But i have to admit that while i visited the 2 day Warren Haynes Christmas Jam 2008 (+ the Pre Jam) in Asheville, NC i was pleasantly surprised by a much higher number of females attending this jam fest extravaganza than i expected and also an audience varying in age a lot more than expected. Usually with bands like these male fortysomethings dominate the audiences in Europe.

Bonamassa is the Beyonce of the blues.

I think most of you are right. That, said, I never miss a Mule show in my vicinity if I can help it. But of course, I'm an ABB fan, so what else would you expect?

That why we love you!

My buddy's wife loves the ABB and I have seen many shows with her, she lasted (with a GF also an ABB fan) about 45 minutes of Warren, Woody and Matt absolutely blasting out the club. In their defence the early Mule was loud. The funny part of the story is they waited outside, then went for for food and returned to find the band still going strong. Waited some more and then finally ditched us and went home. The Mule played for 4 hours that night!

I think the current version is more woman friendly if that makes sense. But it is still mostly just stinky guys. Makes me appreciate the female fan even more! Besides it isn't about how many they are but who they are.

My wife digs the Brothers, loves Gregg solo, and likes Mule when she saw their NYE Woodstock tribute. She also loves Warren with Levon and Phil. But,something about the song structure and heaviness of the Mule material...well,she hasn't enjoyed those concerts...a sweet wife for trying a few with me!

Can't ask for more than that.

My wife just laughs at the notion of going but she will suprise me with tickets and say have fun with the boys. Usually throws "Don't get arrested" in there somewhere. Funny thing is that she loves Warren's fist solo album and plays it often even when I am not around.

I've used the line so and so "could even get laid at a Gov't Mule concert" to a female friend or two who seem to consistently be "between" boyfriends.

Wanee is a contrarian venue. More women than men and also a big disparity in average age.

I think if you got a musically open-minded woman to a Mule show, many of them would become an instant fan. Mule live is just contagious. But it's getting them in there. That was it even for me, and I've seen them 10 or 12 times now. Live is what sold me, not much into their records.

I know ooooone young girl (like 26) who's super into Mule, but that's really it. Welcome to the lonely world of liking good music at far too young an age I'm 21, so I feel ya. If I ever meet a girl who knows Mule it's either because they're from New York, or have a dad who likes good music.
