the ripping of other artists is basically as old as dirt

there's the much ballyhooed arguement of blues artists ripping each other off all the time
which is true to some degree. I have some Tampa Red recordings that came out before
Robert Johnson that sound VERY similar, even though they are two years older.

Dylan's new album has a song called 'Early Roman Kings' with the credit as B. Dylan.
The music is identical to "I'm a Man"/ "Mannish Boy" by Willie Dixon. Not to mention
on Dylan's 'Modern Times' album he used lines from a 19th century poet and claimed they were his. Not to mention a Muddy Waters song and Memphis Miinnie as well. Dylan claims in the folk (and the blues) tradition, artists were constantly ripping off each other. At least that's how Pete Seger, Ramblin Jack and Woody Guthrie tell the story.

Buddy Guy alluded to Willie Dixon ripping him off for songs Buddy was recording in his autobio recently.

I think the credit should go where the credit is due. I'm sure Levon Helm had some thoughts on the subject ...

So, are page and Plant (mostly Plant) off the hook. Nope. But I don't think they deserve the award for greatest rip off artists ever either.

I Think Peter Grant put Plant/Page as writers on stuff where they should have only gotten an arrangement credit. The Record Company was not paying anyone for stuff they considered in the public domain. Might as well get his clients paid.

"Nobody's Fault but mine" , is some what different lyrically from the blind willie version,But I just think Plant couldn't make out BWJ lyrics!

The main guitar riff is just slowed way way down and then twisted just a bit. The jam is spontaneous and they deserve the credit for that.

"In my time of dying" - not so much.
