Hi all,

I am planning a road trip in the first half of November that will take me to Sellersville PA, Norfolk CT, Fall River MA (Providence area) and Boston MA.

Can anyone please recommend some good record/CD stores? I'm interested in good used vinyl and new/used CDs.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Best,

JJ

When we're in Boston, my friend and I love browsing (and emptying our wallets ) at Newbury Comics, not far from Massachusetts Avenue, located on Newbury Street.

If you're ever in Manchester NH, The Music Connection specializes extensively in vinyl

Play It Again records in Bethlehem, PA - one of the best in PA. Vinyl, used & new CDs, non-bootleg imports, etc.

In Scranton there is Embassy Vinyl on Adams Ave and The Electric Mindshaft on Lackawanna Ave. I know the Mindshaft doesn't have a website but he's open 11 to 5 every day, cash only and he's reasonable. Both are small shops but they have a bunch of stuff.

In Wilkes-Barre, PA is Musical Energi. The prices are a bit high but there a ton of stuff.

And there is a local chain in NEPA called Gallery Of Sound. they have new and used CDs, vinyl, DVDs etc.

If you will be in CT, the store claiming to have the biggest vinyl collection in the State is Brass City Records in Waterbury. I do not know where Norfolk CT is, so I cannot say how far of a trek that would be. I do know Brass City is a cool store!

I'll mention a couple of other stores I visit frequently....

Music Outlet in Enfield, CT
http://www.facebook.com/musicoutlet.ct

I'm not sure if your road trip will take you thru Western Massachusetts, but if you do, be sure to visit the VERY BEST Used CD Store in the area, Turn It Up! Records in Northampton, Mass. Across the street from Turn It Up is a Newbury Comics music store.

Gerosa Records in Brookfield, CT. Huge new and used vinyl, great memorabilia and the owner, Brian Gerosa is a super music-loving guy.

His eBay store is pretty amazing too:

Easy on/off from route 84

And when you're in Norfolk, check out Infinity Hall, a great live music venue:

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your suggestions. I have finalized my trip. Won't make it to Boston but am planning on taking up several of your suggestions - Gallery of Sound (Dickson Cty PA), Play it Again Records (Bethlehem PA), Gerosa Records (Brookfield CT) and Brass City Records (Waterbury CT).

I'm also now going to NYC. Any suggestions for me there outside of the spots in Greenwich Village?

Best,

John

I'll second the vote for Gerosa Records. Great prog rock section. Tons of music books and magazines. Lots of used stuff too, including DVDs.

I've spent so many hours there poring through the racks that I have left with a neck-ache. Do some neck exercises and empty your bladder before going there. You may be there for a while!
