The Col.came to Brooklyn last night with Jason Crosby guesting. What a terrific show! For me it was his best band since the Codetalkers.Having AJ Gent on lap steel dual with Jason's electric violin on I'm so Glad was heaven on earth.Anyone who loves Derek's tone will feel right at home with these Pharaohs !

That does sound like a pretty cool combo.

Any band - and anybody in any band that the Col. puts out there is going to be waaay past fantazmic!

I saw Randall Bramblett open for Bonnie Raitt this past Sunday. Randall had the young guy (25 years old or so) who was playing with Col. Bruce as recently as last year (band with Duane Trucks). Anybody recall his name? Great, great player!

Sounds good. Looking forward to seeing them w/ Mule next week.

BTW, Tinsley has been added to the ATL Mule show lineup.

Yes they are Also....

Truth

"Randall had the young guy (25 years old or so) who was playing with Col. Bruce as recently as last year (band with Duane Trucks). Anybody recall his name?"

If you're talking about a guitar player, that would probably be Nick Johnson. Little guy, about 5'4"? If so, that's him.

@Rusty - Thanks for the report on Nick Johnson. He's my good friend's nephew. When he was about 13, he started coming to ABB (and other shows) with us and listened to his Uncle's extensive music collection. He loved Derek Trucks' playing and tried his best to emulate his attitude and work habits. Coincidentally, his Mom and Aunt used to act in community theater with Susan Tedeschi. Anyway, he moved down to Atlanta - hooked up with Jimmy Herring, Duane Trucks and others, and has played with Col Bruce, Yonrico Scott, the Last Waltz Revue, Lingo and now Randall Bramblett. Stay tuned. He's a great kid and a great player.

Just saw this recording from a festival in Georgia called the Sautee Jamboree...

http://archive.org/details/cbhpg2012-09-29.flac8

Among other things, this show has some of the best guitar playing I've heard from Bruce in a LONG time Space Is The Place is really raw and crazy, Bruce is traveling the spaceways as Sun Ra would say. Might be a little scary for those not wise in the ways of Zambi, but I loved it! Smokestack Lightning was another tune where Bruce really dug in and got me to stop what I was doing and say WOW!

4 weeks until Bruce and the band play Smith's Olde Bar on 11/23. Anybody in the Atlanta area for Thanksgiving weekend should check it out, these guys are really cooking right now.
