Beginning Tuesday 5 March and continuing all week, The Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy arts and entertainment blog will premiere and exclusively stream Eric Clapton's new album, Old Sock, in its entirety. Eric recently sat down for an interview with the paper to talk about his new album, upcoming tour and the 2013 Crossroads Guitar Festival, too. The album is out in North America next week and follows later this month for the rest of the world. Visit http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/ to be one of the first to hear it!

EC is planning to record a new live record with special "guests" during his RAH dates.

Record is scheduled for release at end of year. Of course as with EC this is tentative!!!

Sally

Thanks Sally!
EC & Chaka Khan making beautiful music once again!!!

Celebrating his 50th year as a professional musician, Eric Clapton announced today a limited number of 2013 UK concerts including five nights at London’s famed Royal Albert Hall. These concerts will mark his return to the stage after spending 2012 in the studio working on a new album to be released in early 2013.

Clapton has assembled an impressive band for the 2013 dates which will consist of long-time touring partners: Doyle Bramhall II (guitar), Steve Jordan (drums), Chris Stainton (piano and keyboards), and Willie Weeks (bass), along with newcomers Paul Carrack (organ and keyboards) and Greg Leisz (pedal steel guitar). Michelle John and Sharon White will join the touring band again as backing vocalists.

Tickets go on sale Friday, September 21 with a fan club pre-sale beginning Wednesday, September 19. Check local ticket agencies for availability and pricing.

2013 UK DATES

May 14: Manchester Arena / Manchester

JUNE 7 Lodz, Poland Poland Atlas Arena

Clapton’s New Album, (Playing The Blues), is going to shock and surprise many. It features some of his best guitar playing of his career. The title is subject to change, as EC has been to know to change them at the last minute.

Further updates on Crossroads will be coming shortly.

These dates just added!!

Due to high demand, two more shows were added to the run at the Royal Albert Hall and were immediately put on sale. The new dates are Friday 24 May and Sunday 26 May in addition to 17, 18, 20, 21 and 23 which were previously announced

New Album is now named "Old Sock". Release date is March 12th.

Guitar legend Eric Clapton is back in action, both on the road and in the record stores. “Slowhand” will release a new album, titled ‘Old Sock,’ March 12 on his own label, Bushbranch Records.

The label is distributed by Surfdog. The 12 song set will be Clapton’s 21st album in a nearly 50 year career. The announcement was made on the Surfdog website, which very simply said “Surfdog is thrilled to announce the signing of a deal with Eric Clapton for his forthcoming album.” Like many older artists, Clapton has left the major labels for smaller, more ‘artist friendly’ terrain.

Clapton makes an interesting, and high profile, addition to the small label, whose roster includes a wide variety of acts including Glen Campbell, Brian Setzer and Dave Stewart. ‘Old Sock’ will be available on CD and as a 2-LP set. Surfdog lists the March 12 release date as “tentative,” but it is already being pre-sold via online stores. Clapton’s US tour begins March 14 in Phoenix, Ariz.

The new album is a collection of some of Clapton’s favorite songs spanning from his childhood to present day that highlights his vast appreciation and knowledge of music. From Leadbelly to J.J. Cale; Peter Tosh to George Gershwin; Hank Snow to Gary Moore and Taj Mahal, this record is a celebration of so many who have inspired Clapton’s rich musical life. Clapton has always had a remarkable ability to recognize great songs and a gift for knowing how to uniquely interpret them, as he does on Old Sock. The album explores romantic standards of the 30's, reggae, soul, rock, and includes a stand out playful collaboration with Paul McCartney, to create an experience that is quintessential Clapton.

Clapton assembled a band for the recordings consisting of longtime collaborators Steve Gadd (drums), Willie Weeks (bass) and Chris Stainton (keyboards) along with some surprise guest additions. JJ Cale joins the song “Angel” for backing vocals and guitar, Chaka Khan joins as backing vocalist for “Get On Over,” Steve Winwood on the Hammond B3 Organ on “Still Got The Blues,” Paul McCartney on bass/vocals on “All of Me,” Jim Keltner on drums for “Our Love is Here To Stay”.

Eric Clapton ‘Old Sock’ Track Listing:

1. Further On Down The Road
2. Angel
3. Every Little Thing
4. The Folks Who Live On The Hill
5. Born To Lose
6. Till Your Well Runs Dry
7. All Of Me
8. Still Got The Blues
9. Goodnight Irene
10. Gotta Get Over
11. Your One And Only Man
12. Our Love Is Here To Stay

I know this is going to be hard to believe. But unless Derek Trucks is touring with EC, there is no way he is getting my money. I have seen him numerous times and have left unsatisfied more times than not. For a guy that has that kind of catalog to choose from, he just can't put a set list together to save his life. Even when he was touring with Doyal it was just ok?

Especially with todays prices for concerts, I can just sit at home and put on Wonderful Tonight and get the same results. No thanks.

Yes, Wonderful tonight is a bathroom break for me. One thing that I've learned over the years is that women generally don't like Blues music. So I guess Wonderful Tonight is a tip of the hat to the ladies.

I've enjoyed every show I've seen. Even if the setlist is songs he's played before, he can still play the guitar very well. I guess everyone has their own tastes.

Back when he only "played guitar" people bitched that he didn't sing.

Then came the albums like 461 Oceanside and Slow Hand.

The more he sang, the more they bitched about him not playing enough guitar.

I've only seen him once and if I get a chance I'll go see him again.

If he would let me choose the setlist, I would go. LOL. He reminds me of James Taylor in concert and I just can't put up big cash for that. The one off Cream shows and playing with Steve Winwood not included, I would love those shows. But just EC by himself, I just can't do it. Bring on DT and EC and I am all in.

Absolutely agree with JerryPhilBob about not seeing Clapton again unless Trucks is in the band. I have seen him many times over the last 40 years and at this point it is just a money making machine for him with little soul. I think the best performance I saw Clapton do was the 2nd night with the Allmans at the Beacon which probably will never be topped for me.

Stating that I am interested in seeing what acts are announced for the Crossroads shows at MSG which I might attend. Not so much for Clapton but for the other acts.

Only reason I've missed Clapton tours is due to $$. I'd see him anytime, if/when I have the $$.

Hopefully, I'll be able to afford to see him if he comes to SoCal this tour. And, I hope that Paul Carrack is still with him when he does come to town. I've always liked his work with Ace, Squeeze and Mike &The Mechanics. Having BOTH Staintion & Carrack on keyboards sounds potentially great to me. Then to have the Steve Jordan/Willie Weeks rhythm section, too? And, once again with Doyle on 2nd guitar? Hell, yeah, count me in!!

If I get to go this tour, it'll be the 15th time I'll have seen him. Never been disappointed. There'll be a day when we WON'T get to see him in concert because he won't be around. (like Jimi, Duane, Berry, SRV, Allen Woody, et al), so gotta enjoy him for who he his and what he is right now.

He's got some guy named Gregg Leisz playing Pedal Steel guitar with him this time, so I could see them breaking out some songs from the 70s like Promises, Hello Old Friend, Let It Grow, etc.

Yeah, that addition of a pedal steel player made me scratch my head and think that he's gonna pull out some songs he hasn't played in a while.

I liked that tour he did with Doyle and Derek, although Derek dropped off a couple of stops before he reached me. It was heavy on Derek and the Dominos tunes, which was great. Opening tune was Tell the Truth which was outstanding.

Exactly why I just paid out $150 this morning for a ticket to go and see him one more time (last time?) at the Royal Albert Hall ... Expensive? Yes! ... But it is what it is ...

The return of Doyle Bramhall plus the addition of Carrack and the pedal steel player would make me a likely buyer if he tours the US. Doyle really stepped up his game, particularly on slide when Derek departed from the touring band a few years ago. I caught an HD concert where he covered the D&Dominoes songs suprisingly well in the year following Derek's tenure.

Plus, Doyle adds another good voice in the band to cover the Bobby Whitlock vocal parts if they do D&D material again (with Eric, Paul and Doyle in the band, I'm not sure why background vocalists are actually needed though)

Still hoping for Irish dates, especially now Doyle is back in the band. It's just a bit too expensive for me to make it to England at the minute. He doesnt normally miss us out, so fingers crossed!

Interesting teaser about EC's album as well. I thought his blues tour in 1994 was some of the best I have heard from him.

I agree. You will love the new record; unless EC makes last minute changes like
he did on last studio album. This one is more blues/rock.

Come on guys, look at that band! Even if I wasn't a huge EC fan (which I'm, in fact I'll probably miss the Beacon next year in order to attend CGF), I wouldn't miss the opportunity to see Steve Jordan, Willie Weeks, DB or Chris Stainton live, let alone all together backing EC!

I find the new additions to the band interesting, I'm not very familiar with the work of Carrack and not familiar at all Leisz, and haven't been able to find much about him online, but I think the setlists will be at least better than what he did 2010/11.

The pedal steel player worries me a little bit. The last 8-10 years it seems he's been revisiting certain periods of his career on a tour, and the I Wanna Be Don Williams period was my least favorite. But, I'll probably go
