Can only do one of these shows and need some advice on how these artist are sounding these days.

Dr John and the Blind Boys of Alabama, Jorma Kaukonen and Steve Kimock, or Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler.

Saw Dylan last year and it was an excelent show and reading Dadof2's review makes me want to see him.
Dr John is one of my favorites and I really would like to see Blind Boys of Alabama and this description of what to expect has me drooling. Jazz pioneer Dr. John is joined by gospelís legendary The Blind Boys of Alabama for a majestic show that explores the connections between blues, jazz and gospel. Under Dr. Johnís musical direction, "Spirituals to Funk" represents the first-ever touring partnership between the two icons of American music.

Jorma is Jorma plus Kimock is a favorite of mine but I'm looking into seeing a show at Fur Peace Ranch but it this is still a killer lineup

Tough choice. I imagine that the venue for Dr. John is smaller than Dylan so I would go with that one. I just prefer the atmosphere and sound of a smaller venue. can't go wrong with any though.

Obviously I'm biased but Bob is at his best.....if u didnt see him with the baby grand piano last year then see him...the piano has solidified and rounded out the combinations of musical genres he plays....also,his band is,IMHO,the best band in the world right now....a true mind blower.....

BTW....Bob's sound is pretty much always spot on,venue size notwithstanding....

FYI....after each concert Bob's first question is always about the quality of the sound...he pays more attention to sound quality than any artist I've seen or heard.....

Never noticed Bob sounding any better than other artists but that isn't to say the sound was bad. I have seen some larger shows at venues that was not the greatest sound but more the venue than Bob. I can say that I have seen him where no one could understand a word he said regardless of the sopund system.

Some artists really spend big bucks on sound. Roger Waters for instance sounds like the album regardless of venue. Spectacular.

IP, I would jump at the chance to see Mark Knopfler. And with Dylan, well...

(btw - what a musical embarrassment of riches! Sounds like whatever you choose, you will be a winner )

Dylan/Knopfler would be my 1st choice, it sounds like you have a win~win~win situation on your hands. Enjoy he show, whichever you choose.

Me too. Bob is one of my automatics, so that would settle it right there. I have only seen Knopfler once, about 10 yrs ago, and it was most excellent. Very ready to see him again, Bob or not.

Saw Dr John this summer opening for Mule. It was only ok, and I think his new album Locked Down is fantastic.

Decided to see Dylan, now the hard part is how much do I want to spend on seeing Dylan. Had Row C on the floor in the presale but decided against it as I didnt want to pay that much. Guess it is the nosebleed seats for me.

So the next couple months look like

Dumpstaphunk and Fishbone this Saturday
Buddy Guy and Johnny Lang, moe., Umphreys McGee in October and Dylan in November
