What do you want to see happen in this band before they call it an end?
1.New music-it don't even have to be a studio album. get 4-5 new original tunes with Gregg singing.

Ditto....listened to a show from 96 yesterday...man,they got that swing ...unlike today's version of the abb which is more of a swing less guitar shredding machine...would love to hear betts and warren again with a bass player like woody, berry or Lamar...phatter sounds and some swing....

Personally, my wish is that they wind it down and end it while they're still near the top of their game. I say this as someone who loves the ABB. They've given us 40+ great years, they don't owe us a thing, and I'd hate to see them try to hang on while they slide into a less relevant role. I'm not saying this has happened yet, but the time is drawing near where it will be too late to go out on top. The legacy will live on with through other bands of several ABB members.

Go out on top? Then they should have shut it down in 1974. Less relevent role? This is a band that doesn't have a deal nor have they for years. They have one studio album in almost 20 years. Not sure why you would think they are near their peak now.

The playing is great which is all that matters. Writing that they should release new material daily won't make it happen. Enjoy it for what it is would be my advice.

Wish list - play Nobody Knows.

CanadianMule, not sure if you have listened to any of the Summer tour, but they sure sounded a lot closer to peak form than I expected, given Gregg's state at the Beacon and Wanee this year.

Was it 1971? No, of course not. But there are several shows from this year that compare favorably to other shows from this lineup, which is the only apples vs. apples comparison.

I think another album is really the only milestone worth wishing for. I'm not holding my breath, but that is pretty much the only box on the list left to check off. We'll see.

On a personal level, I would love for them to tour with Santana again next year so that I can see what I missed out on this summer. Shame they waited so long to tour together, such a natural combination.

One great archival release from every lineup/guitar combo of the band:
Duane era
5 man band
Chuck/Lamar
Betts/Toler
Betts/Toler/Lawler
Betts/Haynes/Neel
Betts/Haynes/Quinones
Haynes/Herring, Haynes/Wilde, Haynes/Grissom/ Haynes/Pearson
Betts/Pearson
Betts/Trucks
Trucks/Herring
Herring/Haynes
Haynes/Trucks
Trucks/Pearson/Holloway
Haynes/Pearson

That's not too much to ask is it?

I agree Rob, I think this current lineup is peaking right now, listening to the 2nd night of the Peach Festival this morning, wow, better than I remember from Moogis. Gregg is sounding like the Gregg of old to me and the band is on fire! Playing all of the old songs, a few selected covers, man, thank goodness for the munchmix cds so everyone can hear them! And this is coming from someone who hasn't really been all that enthusiastic about them in the past decade.

That was basically my point also Rob. I was responding to Igotnuthin's post about going out at their peak. As good as they may be now, their peak was in the 70s which by default also makes them less relevent. I am not knocking them at all as I see nothing wrong with them at all apart from Gregg's issues obviously. Jut pointing out that his reasons for them stopping now are really not valid. As I said, if it sounds good then that is all that matters. Musicians don't retire. Why stop at all?

I have found it funny to watch the trend of people talking as if the band is on it's last legs and how the shows won't be as good. Why a change from a year or two ago? Well Gregg issues of course have affected Gregg and the band but the rest of them are business as usual. I just can't understand how people can think a band with Warren and Derek in it could be anything but stellar. No knock on any of the other members as they are great and play a huge part. But I could put Warren and Derek with the worst drummer and bassist in the world and it would still be great. Two of the most talented guitarists of their generation and all time in the same band. It is a given in my mind.

Then people go and the reviews were great and there seems to be a suprise about that? I don't get it. I knew they would be good. Far too much talent to be anything but good. Even with Gregg at less than 100%, the ABB's set is made up of more soloing than singing anyway so no reason to lose many of those magical moments. Sure the setlists cut back this year and for a reason and we all know that Warren is not one to cut back unless their is a reason. I think that is where Gregg deserves to be cut some slack. It has been a hard couple of years and personally I would be at home if I were in his position so we are lucky that there are shows at all. Misses somes cues now and it the setlists grew it would be worse. Some things take time.

X2 -- gosh you'd think Warren especially would want to break that one out
another wish - a show consisting of a completely deconstructed set list to include specially-rehearsed-for, rarely-played ABB studio tracks
most of all -- Happiness & Good Health to the ABB, esp. the 3 original members & Dickey -- those guys deserve a great "retirement"

My wishlist is very simple. I want Gregg to get as healthy as humanly possible at this stage of his life and have the band come out with all guns blazing for an Epic 2013 Beacon Run! Yes, I would also like to see one last studio effort from this lineup and then go out and support that album on the road. Other than that they really owe us nothing. This lineup has given me more joy than I ever would have thought possible when Warren rejoined in 2001. In my opinion, pound for pound this is the best, strongest, most versatile, most experimental and most dynamic lineup since the original band. God Bless The Allman Brothers Band. Nuff said.

Gregg, Dickie, Butch, Jaimoe, Marc, Otel, Derek, and Warren all get together and have a big 2 hour jam. Throw in some high fives and some laughs and smiles and just make the most of the opportunity.

Jeez, more footage of Duane!!! Not sure this group of musicians has any control over that, however.

For the current Band? I don't really pay any attention to them but I wish there was some way to for all parties involved to get over the Allman/Trucks/Betts feud. I don't expect them to *play* together, but before they DIE, it would be nice for everyone's kharma to at least bury the hatchet?

To continue to do Wanee every year, with all past members, side projects, family bands etc ...like a yearly reunion

Have one show, (next yr at Wanee?) w/ Derek, Warren, Jackie P. and Jimmy Herring.

Play one song, perhaps a Blue Sky with guest Richard Betts at the Beacon next year...nobody even has to talk to each other, just do it and be thankful this whole thing (the last 40+ yrs) happened

Warren to write a book on the band (w/ lots of Mule stuff too) about his years

I want them to play Down In Texas.

That song has my favorite Gregg vocals ever. And I think Derek and Warren could have a lot of fun turning Duane's outro into a great dual guitar jam.

If they do make a new album - please invite Jack Pearson in for a few tunes!

I spoke to him once - said that he wishes that he had been able to record with the Allman Brother's Band.
